An imbalance between yin and yang is a central concept in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which posits that the body's vital energy, or Qi, flows in balance between these two opposing yet complementary forces. When this balance is disrupted, it doesn't cause a single specific illness but rather a wide spectrum of health conditions or "patterns of disharmony" [1, 2].
The disturbances in the Yin-Yang dynamical balance may result in stress, inflammation, and various disorders including insomnia, Alzheimer's disease, obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, skin disorders, and cancer.
If yang is deficient and insufficient to control yin, it will cause a symptom of imaginary cold in TCM. If yin is deficient and insufficient to control yang, it will cause a symptom of deficiency heat in TCM. Therefore, the imbalance of yin and yang is the root cause of all diseases [5,13,14].
These are called yin and yang. Ancient Chinese believed that humans are microcosms of the larger surrounding universe, and are interconnected with nature and subject to its forces. Balance between health and disease is a key concept.
These can be a feeling of cold, preference for warmth, cold limbs, pale and frequent urine, and low energy. Deficiency of Yang can be caused by overwork and excess physical work or dietary factors like excessive consumption of cold foods. With a Yang deficiency, one might feel colder than normal and seek warmth.
Within the theory of Yin-Yang, they perform together protecting the body from pathological factors which are bacteria, virus, and stress. From this state, four pathological changes of Yin-Yang imbalance occur. There are Yang Excess, Yin Excess, Yang Deficiency and Yin Deficiency.
The kidneys are associated with fear and anxiety in TCM.
The theory is based on 4 principles: Opposition, Interdependence, Mutual Consumption and Intertransformation.
Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. This is an advanced clinical doctorate, and currently the highest degree in the field awarded in the United States. Some examples of Yin substances are blood, organ tissue, body fluids, or waste products, while Yang aspects are Qi, organ function, breath, or body heat. Think of sweating as an example. The actual sweat is a Yin substance, while the body's ability of the pores to open and close is the Yang aspect.
Imbalances
If you have too much yang then you will have too much heat, which can cause health problems such as psoriasis. If you have a deficiency of yin, you can have menopausal symptoms and poor egg quality. A deficiency of yin can manifest as: Anaemia.
The danger of this imbalance is physical and emotional exhaustion (envision pushing a wheelbarrow full of rocks up a mountain, and the long-term effect this has on your body).
Spleen qi deficiency may cause symptoms such as:
Sugar, alcohol, chocolate, coffee and black tea are classed as yang. 'Neutral' foodstuffs bring balanced energy, structure and stability.

The Meaning of Yin & Yang Colors
Yin is black. Yang is white. As Yin is black, it symbolizes shadow or darkness, things that are quieter, aloof, the moon, and all things with dark energy.
In normal circumstances, Yin and Yang, blood and chi, and the organs of the human body will complement and support each other, so that a harmonious balance between all can be maintained in a healthy, harmonious state. Disruption of any physiological or physio-environmental balance is the starting point of all diseases.
Understanding Grief Trauma and Its Impact on the Body
Trauma can get stored deep in your muscles, in your breath, and even in the way your heart beats. And over time, if that grief isn't released, it can start to affect your body in ways you might not expect.
Five key signs of kidney failure include persistent fatigue, swelling (especially in legs/ankles/feet), changes in urination (less frequent or foamy), nausea/vomiting/poor appetite, and itchy, dry skin, often resulting from waste buildup when kidneys can't filter properly. Other signs involve headaches, trouble sleeping, shortness of breath, and muscle cramps, as kidney failure affects fluid balance and toxin removal.
Fear is the emotion of the kidneys and the bladder, organs associated with the water element. It is a normal adaptive emotion, but can become chronic when ignored. Kidney issues often arise when we are dealing with fear, such as a change in life direction or unstable living conditions.
