There are rare instances where a tiger might target a young or weak elephant, but such cases are uncommon.
"We noticed that the elephants were more scared of tigers than of leopards," said Vivek Thuppil, who carried out the work with Richard Coss, professor of psychology at UC Davis, as part of his Ph. D. in animal behavior.
There is a common folklore belief that elephants are afraid of mice. The earliest reference to this claim is probably by Pliny the Elder in his Naturalis Historia, book VIII.
Predators. Asiatic wild dogs called dholes may prey upon tigers but these rare attacks are usually countered with drastic losses to the dholes' pack. Humans are the greatest threat to all tiger populations.
While tigers have been known to attack and kill young or weakened elephants, they do not typically see adult elephants as prey. In fact, adult elephants are formidable opponents and can pose a significant threat to tigers if they feel threatened or are protecting their young.
Lions are the number one natural enemy of elephants. Lions are elephants' number one natural enemy and another member of the Big Five. While they move and hunt in packs, it is the lionesses that do most of the hunting for everyone, while the male lions protect the pride.
