Traditionally, Apollo and his twin, Artemis (Roman: Diana), were born on the isle of Delos. From there Apollo went to Pytho (Delphi), where he slew Python, the serpent that guarded the area.
Python became the chthonic enemy of the later Olympian deity Apollo, who slew it and took over Python's former home and oracle. These were the most famous and revered in the ancient Greek and Roman worlds.
Apollo and The Trojan War
Apollo, the Greek god, played a very important role in the Trojan War, fighting alongside the Trojans. During the war, Achilles brutally murdered one of Apollo's sons named Troilus.
According to one myth, while the young Apollo was establishing his oracle at Delphi, he encountered a monstrous serpent or dragon called Python. After a violent battle, Apollo won the upper hand and slew Python with his arrows. He then built his oracle over the corpse of his defeated enemy.
