For a colonoscopy, "clear soup" means plain, strained broth (like chicken or beef) with no solids, cream, or high-fiber vegetables, allowing you to see through it clearly, like bouillon or consommé, and often avoiding red/purple colors. It should be just the liquid part, leaving minimal residue in the digestive tract, and can be combined with other clear fluids like apple juice, clear gelatin, and water.
Broth and Bouillon
Broth, or bouillon, is a common clear soup. Broths come in a variety of flavours, including chicken, turkey, beef, vegetable and mushroom.
DO NOT EAT ANY SOLID FOOD. You can still have smooth soups (e.g. tomato, vegetable Bouillon), jelly, ice cream, Ambrosia custard, Complan drinks, Bovril and Oxo drinks, and water, clear juices, fizzy drinks and tea. FLUID EVERY HOUR ON THE HOUR during the daytime.
Fruit juices without pulp, such as grape juice, filtered apple juice, and cranberry juice. Soup broth (bouillon or consommé) Clear sodas, such as ginger ale and Sprite. Gelatin.
Clear broths. Chicken, beef, or bone broth that is clear and fat-free can provide nutrients and salt, which are important for maintaining electrolyte balance. Fruit juices. Clear juices that don't have pulp, like apple juice, are a good option.
Homemade JELL-O out of the box and broth (like Campbell's chicken noodle soup without the noodles) are permitted up until midnight before the procedure. Make sure your child has access to clear liquids other than water to prevent dehydration and electrolyte imbalance.
NO cloudy liquids such as orange juice, tomato juice or soup, potato soup, and vegetable or meat soup. NO alcohol, beer, or mixed drinks. AVOID liquids with artificial red or purple dyes. If you CANNOT see through it, then it is NOT a clear liquid.
You can't eat any solid food, but you can consume an unlimited amount of clear liquids which may include:
Try bone broth or an Ensure Clear nutrition drink. Decaffeinated drinks also have been proven to decrease hunger pangs. Need to chew? Try munching on ice, gummy bears or gelatin.
You can eat or drink
You can also use spaghetti or noodles in the soup. For a gluten-free version, use rice or corn or any gluten-free pasta. If you don't want to add pasta at all to the soup, add more vegetables to make a filling meal like this clear butternut squash soup.
Canned or other soup that contains vegetables, meat, pasta, spices, or beans aren't acceptable choices before your colonoscopy. Not only do these contain solid foods, but some of these soup types are also high in fiber.
Clear soups typically look like broth and can be made with vegetable stock or meat stock, such as a broth made with chicken or pork. They are good for the digestive system and detoxify the gut.
Clear soups (consommé, bouillon), Oxo, Bovril, stock cubes.

At 4 p.m. stop drinking clear liquids and do NOT put anything in your mouth. At 6 p.m. take the first dose of GoLytely. Add room temperature drinking water to the fill line near the top of the container and shake it well to dissolve.

On average, individuals may experience a weight loss of around 2-3 pounds during colonoscopy prep. This weight loss is primarily due to the clearing of your bowels through the use of laxatives and a clear liquid diet.
If you begin drinking the colonoscopy prep in the evening, start a few hours earlier to prevent running to the toilet all night. Each person's body is different – for some, it works right away, and for others, it takes several hours. Give yourself plenty of time for the laxative to start working.
Inadequate bowel preparation is observed in more than 25% of all colonoscopies. Identification of predictive factors for inadequate colon cleaning is helpful and more detailed preparation methods should be used for patients at high risk.
The day before your colonoscopy, your doctor will likely recommend you start following a clear-liquid diet. This means sticking to fluids like water, coffee, and broth.
On a clear liquid diet, you can only consume transparent, fat-free broths: chicken, beef, or bone bouillon; consommé; and strained vegetable broth. All must be low-sodium, completely clear (no pulp or solids), and free of red/purple dyes.
You may have low residue breakfast only. Low residue breakfast foods include eggs, white bread, cottage cheese, yogurt, grits, coffee, and tea. You may have clear liquids. Do not drink milk or eat or drink anything colored red or purple.
