Mothra's Sacrifice
The same holds true in King of the Monsters, where Mothra ultimately sacrifices herself to give Godzilla her power. Similar things have happened in past movies, but not quite like this.
While it may seem difficult to fathom a giant moth battling other kaiju, Mothra is a worthy opponent to even the strongest monsters like King Ghidorah. Mothra can deflect attacks through her wing scales, causing catastrophic or even fatal results for the person/beast who launched the original assault.
Over the years, Godzilla's ultimate defeat has led to the notion that he lost to Mothra, but it's important to recognize that the fully-grown Mothra actually died to Godzilla. Despite her efforts to save Japan, Godzilla ultimately triumphed over the creature.
