Sadly, Jenna was tragically killed off at the hands of Klaus Mikaelson. Much to the surprise of The Vampire Diaries fans, there was no concrete reason for such an exit. In fact, per an interview with TV Line, it was revealed that writers had absolutely no clue on how to proceed with Canning's character.
Sadly, Jenna only survived the witches, werewolves, and vampires of Mystic Falls until the Season 2 episode "The Sun Also Rises." Klaus (Joseph Morgan) killed her for his ritual to reverse the werewolf / vampire hybrid curse. And in doing so, he also turned her into a vampire.
Jenna Sommers is the aunt of Elena Gilbert and Jeremy Gilbert, and the younger sister of the late Miranda Gilbert.
Then, in Season 3, Alaric becomes Elena and Jeremy's guardian after Jenna died.
Jenna begins to worry when Elena doesn't come home and yells at her. However, Elena asks Jenna if she's adopted and gets mad at her for not telling her. Jenna helps her search for her birth mother, Isobel, and tells her all that she knows about her.

For some time during late Season 2 and early Season 3, Jenna was pretending to still be blind after regaining her sight. She did not want anyone to know that she could see them.
She became their guardian after her sister and Grayson's deaths, and had some struggles with it. She was later turned into a vampire by Klaus and used in the ritual to restore his hybrid status. She peacefully moved on as a ghost and happily reunited with her family.
Stefanie Salvatore is the heretic daughter of Damon Salvatore and Elena Gilbert, as well the younger twin sister of Stefan Salvatore. She is a witch from the Salvatore bloodline and a vampire, she gets her vampire side from both of her parents.

In the episode "Birds of a Feather", it is revealed that Melissa is the Black Swan and that the night of the Masquerade Ball she received a note, blackmailing her to wear the costume to the ball. The note also said that she had to distract Jenna, which is why the Black Swan was talking to Jenna.
Somtime during season six of The Vampire Diaries, Elena give birth to her and Jacob's first and only child, Bonnie Rebekah Fogerty. They named their daughter in honor of their two friends, Bonnie Bennett and Rebekah Mikaelson.
In the Season 6 finale, antagonist Kai Parker (Chris Wood) placed a sleeping spell on Elena that linked her to her best friend Bonnie (Kat Graham). Therefore, as long as Bonnie was alive, Elena remained in a deep sleep. Elena willingly went into that state to ensure her best friend would enjoy a long life.
Since her life is linked to Bonnie's, everybody figured she'd have to sleep for decades, until Bonnie died. And surely the show's writers would never sacrifice Bonnie's life just so Elena could wake up.
