This medication is a combination product that is used to reduce swelling, pain, and inflammation of hemorrhoids and other rectal lesions. It is also used to treat proctitis, fissures, cryptitis, pain following rectal surgery, and rectal itching.
PROCTOSEDYL Ointment and Suppositories are used for the relief of the discomfort of haemorrhoids (piles) and other painful conditions of the anus (rear end), such as fissures (tears). Haemorrhoids often result when people strain while trying to open their bowel (defecate).
Apply an over-the-counter hemorrhoid cream or suppository containing hydrocortisone, or use pads containing witch hazel or a numbing agent. Soak regularly in a warm bath or sitz bath. Soak your anal area in plain warm water for 10 to 15 minutes two to three times a day. A sitz bath fits over the toilet.
Hemorrhoid cream has been used for decades to relieve the temporary symptoms caused by inflamed veins or hemorrhoidal tissue around the anus. It helps treat the symptoms until the flare-up subsides. This normally happens within a few days to a week.
It takes about 7 days for hemorrhoids to shrink, depending on their severity and how well you take care of them.
While there is no specific timeline for how long a hemorrhoid lasts, most people find relief from symptoms in a few days. In instances where pain persists for more than a week, consult your physician.
If you use hydrocortisone for a long time, it can thin the skin around your anus. It's best not to use these treatments for more than 7 days and not to repeat these treatments too often.
Hemorrhoid cream is a product that you apply on the outside, or just on the inside, of the anus area. The cream helps with symptoms of hemorrhoids like swelling, pain, and itching.
Apply the product to the skin of the affected area up to 4 times daily, usually in the morning and bedtime, or after each bowel movement, or as directed by your doctor. To apply this product inside the lower part of the anus, use the applicator tip/cap/nozzle.
"Hemorrhoids can be painful and embarrassing, but they often shrink on their own with simple self-help and over-the-counter remedies," says Dr. Howard LeWine, assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School.
There is no quick treatment that can treat hemorrhoids within 48 hours, but hemorrhoidectomy is the most effective treatment option available.
Unless your doctor advises differently, you should not use PROCTOSEDYL continuously for longer than three weeks. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure how long to use the medicine for.
Proctosedyl Suppositories can be used for the short term relief (not more than 7 days) of: Pain, irritation, discharge and itching associated with enlarged or swollen vessels around your back passage (haemorrhoids)
PROCTOSEDYL should be used three times daily for first week, after morning stool, noon and evening. If you use it for longer than 7 days, then you may be able to reduce the number of times you have to use it each day.
If someone has grade 3 or grade 4 hemorrhoids, doctors often recommend surgery. A general or local anesthetic is usually needed for this.
The best sleeping position for piles
Try to lie on your stomach. It is the best position for sleeping with haemorrhoids. It reduces the discomfort and pressure on the back and anal area. Try sleeping on your side with a pillow between your legs.
Aspirin and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen (Motrin) and naproxen (Aleve) can help with pain and swelling. Apply ice several times a day for 10 minutes at a time. Then place a warm compress on the anal area for another 10 to 20 minutes.
The local pain and swelling should begin to subside after a few days, but it may take 2-3 weeks for lump to go away completely.
There is a chance of inflammations and for symptoms to occur again if a hemorrhoid is left untreated for a long time or treated improperly. If inflammation exists, hemorrhoids will be swollen and enlarged. The condition is clearly visible from the outside and the prolapsed hemorrhoid cannot be pushed back inside.
This occurs when a hemorrhoid blood vessel is injured and develops one or more blood clots. The thrombosis can often have the appearance of a purple lump the size of a peanut or grape immediately at the anal opening. Overstraining with bowel movements or vigorous physical activity can cause thrombosed hemorrhoids.
Sclerotherapy: For this procedure, a provider injects a chemical solution into the area around the hemorrhoids. This solution damages the blood vessels, causing them to shrink and scar down. Electrocoagulation: This procedure uses an electric current to damage the hemorrhoids.
Drinking more water, eating more fiber, and taking over-the-counter medications may help hemorrhoids to resolve on their own at home. However, often a doctor can help you get effective relief faster than you might on your own.
Get more fiber.
High-fiber foods include broccoli, beans, wheat and oat bran, whole-grain foods, and fresh fruit. Fiber supplements help decrease hemorrhoidal bleeding, inflammation, and enlargement. They may also reduce irritation from small bits of stool that are trapped around the blood vessels.
