Send some bomb arrow(s) at the Lynel (plural if you're using the mighty Lynel bow, single if you're not). The reason for the bomb is twofold: first, it deals a chunk of damage, but second (and more importantly), it sets fire to the grass and creates an updraft that you'll need to use.
Using Ice Arrows or stasis will freeze the Lynel temporarily. If you get close enough, you mount it and deal additional damage!
As we mentioned in our guide on how to defeat Lynels, it's best to try and keep your distance for as long as possible due to the power behind their melee attacks. Because of this, we'd suggest having something like a Great Eagle Bow since you can fire three arrows at once without rinsing through your resources.
Simply running away from attacks (not too far) and shooting a Lynel's head makes them drop to the floor giving you time to attack. The best weapons to use would be a shield, a bow with at least 15–30 bomb arrows and a weapon that Link can use to give multiple hits.
Lynels have weak points that you can hit to reduce their health significantly. The two most common weak points are the Lynel's head and legs. Shooting the Lynel in the head with an arrow or attacking its legs will stun it, which gives you the perfect opportunity to attack the Lynel's body.
Silver-Maned Lynels have 5000 HP, making them even more tough than White-Maned Lynels. 18 of the 22 Lynels in the game will eventually evolve into Silver Lynels. They have the same move set as other Lynels, although its attacks do considerably more damage.
Red Lynels (HCN 147) are your basic Lynel. Blue-Maned Lynels (HCN 148) are one step up from Red. White-Maned Lynels (HCN 149) are even more difficult to beat and fairly rare. Silver Lynels (HCN 150) are the most difficult to defeat and the rarest.
The "weakest" of the bunch, the Red-Maned Lynel should be the first port of call for anyone considering the challenge of facing these beasts.
If needed, players are also able to use an Ancient Blade to immediately win the fight against a Lynel. As with all non-boss monsters, an arrow equipped with an Ancient Blade will warp the Lynel from reality, along with any drops the player would have received for defeating it.
If Link has acquired either the Tempered Sword or the Golden Sword, then his sword can do damage. Alternatively, Link can hit a Lynel with his Master Sword, but only by performing a Spin Attack. Link can also defeat a Lynel with three hits from his Magic Hammer, but this requires him to get very close.
Types Of Lynels
There are four kinds of Lynels. Red Lynels are the easiest to tackle, while Silver Lynels are the hardest. The developers have increased the difficulty by giving the Lynels more health and the ability to do more damage, but also by letting them use new moves and making flurry rushes harder to achieve.
In Master Mode, one Moblin that uses Bomb Arrows can be found near Spectacle Rock and one White-Maned Lynel using Bomb Arrows can be found on the Great Plateau.
TIL if you shoot a lynel with a guardian arrow, it disappears.
How to break the Silver Lynel armor. The key ingredient to be able to defeat the Silver Lynel is a Shard of Dragon Spike, which you can fuse to your weapons to give you an armor smashing property in TotK.
Compared to the standard Lynel, those with blue manes are much tougher, with much sharper horns. Facing off against a Lynel is ill-advised, but if you must, be sure you're very well prepared."
It may seem obvious, but increasing Link's health and stamina will help immensely when it comes to fighting one of the toughest enemies in the game. While a seasoned player may be able to take down a Lynel with only the initial three hearts, it's incredibly unwise to attempt this if you are new to hunting them.
Breath of the Wild
Golden Lynels are found exclusively in Master Mode, and have more health than their silver counterparts (7500 HP). They deal more damage as well - with base attack power 60 without a weapon and 216 explosion damage, which is equivalent to 54 hearts worth of damage.
The best armour in Breath of the Wild - speaking purely in terms of damage resistance provided in combat - is the Ancient Armour set of the Ancient Helm, Ancient Cuirass, and Ancient Grieves.
Lynel - This basic Lynel has a red mane. You most likely met one during the Divine Beast Vah Ruta Main Quest. This creature has 2,000 HP. Blue-Maned Lynel - This variation of the Lynel has a blue mane (hence the name) and sports 3,000 HP.
The most notable exceptions to the shock arrow effect are Lynels, which will never drop their weapons until they are defeated. Lynels are also one of the more common enemies to use Shock Arrows themselves and can be a decent source of them if the player knows how to handle Lynels easily.
There are 23 Lynels in Breath of the Wild, and they scale up in difficulty as you defeat monsters. When you've defeated enough other enemies, 19 of the 23 Lynels will become Gold in Master Mode.
Are Lynels harder than divine beasts? Lynel become easier with technique, hearts and armor and the divine beasts were designed to beat before you go exploring too much and fight lynels. In my opinion getting the rewards from divine beasts helps you combat lynels more effectively.
This is because they don't start appearing until the world has been scaled up significantly. If you're still seeing Red, Blue, or White Lynels, keep defeating various enemies to advance the invisible scaling system in TotK. Eventually, you'll start seeing Silver Lynels in all the same places.
