Vince Gilligan has said that the flash-forward scene at the beginning of season five was accidentally filmed without the watch, so they had to have Walt ditch it or lose it before that scene took place chronologically.
After the Breaking Bad finale aired back in 2013, Vince Gilligan actually did clarify the choice to show Walt taking off his watch and leaving it atop the payphone he used to scam information about Elliott and Gretchen Schwartz.

The episode title, "Felina", is inspired by the character Feleena from the song "El Paso" by Marty Robbins, which plays a major role during the episode. The story of "El Paso" closely mirrors Walter White's character arc in the final season of Breaking Bad.
Felina is a metaphor for Walt's double life. As Heisenberg, Walt becomes obsessed with the power and money that a being a drug kingpin brings. This power is his Felina, his weakness. But its backbone is the obsessive (destructive) love he also has for his family.
Why didn't Jesse kill Walt? Because he was the bigger man. Jesse did not have to kill, he knew he had already taken everything Walter White cherished, his money, his family, and his manhood, and he did it without killing one person.
It is revealed that Skyler is eventually forced to move into an apartment and takes a job as a taxi dispatcher, having all their assets seized. She still maintains custody of the children, however ("Granite State").
After Breaking Bad
In an interview, show creator Vince Gilligan confirmed that Walter Jr. eventually received his father's drug money through Gretchen and Elliott Schwartz, which he had arranged beforehand.
She didn't get it. That's one of the reasons he left when the DEA showed up at the park: he needed his buyout from Walt if he was going to set her up.
As Walt either wouldn't or couldn't do anything to save Jane, he decided not to wake Jesse up, knowing that her death would help him gain control over Jesse as a result, and possibly saving Jesse from the same fate and to protect his own criminal secrets. Walt watching Jane die.
Holly's first word (and her only one throughout the series) was "Mama". It is Elanor Anne Wenrich who plays in this heartbreaking scene.
In the final scene, Hank figures out that Walt is Heisenberg while perusing Walt's copy of “Leaves of Grass” on the toilet.
And while, of course, Walter White is evil, too, (himself being an antagonist who makes numerous questionable decisions), it's no secret that fans root for him over the course of the series. Anyone who gets in his way is deemed an antagonist, but only a few Breaking Bad villains stand out as genuinely evil characters.
Trivia. In 2016, Vince Gilligan finally revealed the true reason why Walter broke up with Gretchen and left Gray Matter: he felt inferior to her and her wealthy family, confirming that it was due to his ego and pride.
Gretchen and Elliot arrive home. Walt is waiting for them just outside and follows them in as they make small-talk. Walt tells them he's there to give them something. They help him bring approximately $9 million in cash into the living room.
