Triton, in Greek mythology, a merman, demigod of the sea; he was the son of the sea god, Poseidon, and his wife, Amphitrite. According to the Greek poet Hesiod, Triton dwelt with his parents in a golden palace in the depths of the sea.
Amphitrite, in Greek mythology, the goddess of the sea, wife of the god Poseidon, and one of the 50 (or 100) daughters (the Nereids) of Nereus and Doris (the daughter of Oceanus). Poseidon chose Amphitrite from among her sisters as the Nereids performed a dance on the isle of Naxos.
Poseidon had many children but some of the most well known were: Theseus, Triton, Polyphemus, Orion, Belus, Agenor, Neleus, and Atlas.

From that time forward, Poseidon and Athena were rivals. This plays out in the story of the Odyssey where Poseidon tries to thwart Odysseus while Athena tries to help him on his journey.

Gods play an important role in Homer's epic the Odyssey. Almost all the gods are sympathetic to the main hero, Odysseus, except for Poseidon. Poseidon hates Odysseus because he has blinded his son Polyphemus.
In his private life Zeus was quite the lothario, fathering an unbelievable number of around 100 children with many different women (but don't hate him too much – it's just a myth, after all). Of this 100, he fathered a mix of sons and daughters, many of whom were gods and goddesses, and some became great leaders.
Poseidon was enamored by Medusa's beauty, and Medusa returned the same feelings. Medusa and Poseidon engaged in a love affair and would have two children together, but not before Athena discovered the illicit affair.
The name Poseidon is boy's name of Greek origin. This version of the sea god's name may be more ready for prime time than the Roman version, Neptune -- slightly.

Hades' Early Life
Hades was the firstborn son of the Titans, Cronus and Rhea, who were a pretty big deal in Greek mythology. Moreover, Hades had three older sisters, Hestia, Demeter, and Hera, as well as a younger brother, Poseidon.
Zeus had several brothers and sisters who were also powerful gods and goddesses. He was the youngest, but the most powerful of three brothers. His oldest brother was Hades who ruled the Underworld. His other brother was Poseidon, god of the sea.
Poseidon is often described as a bearded, curly haired figure with an appearance similar to his brother Zeus, the god of the sky, but usually more coarse. Poseidon is also often depicted holding a trident, a three-pronged spear.
What are Poseidon's powers? Poseidon had complete control over any body of water, which includes the creatures that reside in them. He had the ability to create storms, earthquakes, floods, and droughts. Like many other gods, he had superhuman strength along with the capability to teleport and shapeshift.
