The legendary Demon Slayer Yoriichi Tsugikuni, the creator of Breathing Styles, almost killed Muzan Kibutsuji during their first encounter centuries ago, leaving him deeply scarred and terrified, though Muzan escaped by splitting into many pieces. Yoriichi overpowered Muzan, attacking his multiple hearts and brains, but Muzan's ability to scatter his body allowed him to regenerate elsewhere, with Yoriichi destroying most fragments but some escaping, as detailed on the Kimetsu no Yaiba Wiki.
Muzan is beheaded by Gyomei. Using this opportunity, Gyomei Himejima appears and destroys Muzan's head. However, he is able to instantly regrow his head, just as Kagaya had predicted earlier, instructing Gyomei to restrain Muzan until sunlight.
