Even JPEG in 100% quality will experience some loss in quality compared to PNG and other lossless formats. JPEGs are better for print because they support higher DPI and CMYK workflows. The PNG image file was released in 1994 and has become the other standard file format for images. It's a higher-quality format than JPEG because it uses lossless compression. Print projects don't fully optimize a PNG's graphics. PNGs don't support CMYK color, which is common in the printing industry. However, professional art printing tends to use special RGB printers for art and giclee prints, so PNG files can work well for creating archival-quality art prints.
Fortunately, you can usually fix PNG image issues fairly easily and it's best to convert your file prior to submitting for print. Here's some way you can fix a PNG file: Rasterize or Flatten the art file that contains PNG images. Convert the PNG images into a CMYK jpeg/jpg images.
From the outset, PNGs were designed with the web in mind. Because of this, they don't support CMYK color modes, so transferring them to print can prove difficult. Although compressed PNGs contain high-quality, detailed image data, their larger file size means slower page loading times and responsiveness.

Additionally, PNGs have a lower image compression ratio, which can result in loss of detail or color information when attempting to print an image or graphic. Therefore, if you need to print an image or graphic, exporting as a PDF or another lossless format is recommended.

What is a PNG file? Portable Network Graphics files (PNGs) are compressible and like JPEGS, can handle 16 million colors. They're mostly used for web graphics, logos, charts, and illustrations, rather than high-quality photographs, because they take up more storage space than JPEGs.

Many cameras take pictures at 640 x 480 pixels, which is a good size for viewing on a screen. For comparison, the largest photos we use at How Stuff Works are about 400 x 300 pixels. For printing, the general rule is that you want 150 to 200 pixels per inch of print size.

What file type is best for printing posters? We recommend high-resolution JPEG, JPG, PNG, PDF, HEIC, or AVIF formats. These give the sharpest large picture printing results.
Disadvantages of JPEG.
For the highest quality photo prints, we generally recommend 300 DPI. (This is what you'll hear referred to as a "giclée" print sometimes.) However, most images will still look good and avoid pixelation at 150 DPI or above. Simply put: Don't blow up photos to more than double what the max size was at full quality.
On your computer, right-click on the image and then select “Properties.” A window will appear with the image's details. Go to the “Details” tab to see the image's dimensions and resolution. Resolution should be at least 300 PPI or 300 DPI to be considered hi-res.

Since PNG files are most widely used for web display many programs default or quick export settings only export at 72 DPI. 72DPI or pixels per inch will result in a clear display on computers but might look pixelated or jagged when printed.
