The Prophet, on him be peace, according to a good (ḥasan) ḥadîth in the collection of Al-Tirmidhî, instructed Muslims to name newborns on the seventh day, purify them then, and make the 'aqîqah sacrifice all on the seventh day.
Islam. In Islam, the baby is named on the seventh day by the mother and father who make a decision together on what the child should be called. They choose an appropriate name, with a positive meaning.
Then it is recommended to name by any name which has good meaning. It is forbidden to name a child with a name that denote servitude to other than Allah, for example Abd An-Nabi, Abd Ar-Rasool, etc., just as it is forbidden to name them with names that are particular to the non-Muslims like George, Michael, Susan, etc.
Once your baby is born

In general what seems to happen in these cases is that if the parents forgo naming their child within the allotted time before a birth certificate must be processed, no name is given and the parents are simply allowed to submit one later when they ultimately decide on one.

But it's completely legal in most U.S. states to leave the baby portion of the birth-certificate blank. You can walk out of any hospital with a nameless child (as long as it's your own). The paperwork can wait. And in some places, the paperwork can wait for up to a year.
There is no evidence – as far as we know – that calling a girl Firdaws or Jannah is not allowed. So there is nothing wrong with using these names. These are names that carry good and beautiful meanings.

Both parents have the right to be involved in the naming process. So, if a father wishes to change the child's name, he needs the mother's parental consent. The mother also has the right to name a child.
Some people drop the name as soon as they know they have a viable pregnancy, while others wait until the baby is born. There's no right or wrong, as long as you're confident in your choice before you announce it.
