In series two's 'Innocence' Buffy loses her virginity to her long-term boyfriend Angel (David Boreanaz) and he in turn loses his soul and becomes a literal monster, (cue everyone everywhere breathing a sigh of relief at how awkward their own first time had been).
Season two, episode 14 – Innocence
After Buffy and Angel sleep together, Angel loses his soul, reverting to his supremely evil Angelus persona and teaming up with Drusilla and then villainous Spike.
Angelus terrorizes Willow and the Gang at school, emotionally tormenting Buffy. Later, as they discuss Angel's transformation in the library, Buffy realises that having sex with Angel is what caused him to turn evil. Buffy has a dream in which Angel indicates that Jenny knows more than she is letting on.
Angel had to strip himself of his soul and revert to his evil alter ego in order to defeat it, after "Cordelia" had a vision of Angelus facing the Beast in the past which Angel did not recall. As Angelus, he lures Faith to the Beast, only to betray and kill him, not knowing it would bring back the sun.
Angel lost his soul twice: first, when he slept with Buffy Summers, and again, due to a spell.
Angel killed him and finally recognized Buffy afterward, and regained his sanity. Though the Scooby gang do not trust him after he went bad, Angel manage to win back some good faith and acceptance in the gang after he saves Willow from being killed by the corrupt former Watcher Gwendolyn Post.
How old is Angel/Spike/Drusilla/Darla? Their sirings are all shown in flashbacks: Angel was turned in 1753, Spike in 1880, Drusilla in 1860, and Darla in 1609. Angel is 26, Drusilla is 19.
Later, in Angel's perfect-day dream sequence, Angel and Cordelia consummated their relationship, but Angel called out "Buffy!" as he lost his soul, just as he did in Sunnydale years earlier.
He was also known as the One with the Angelic Face because of his physical beauty. However, in 1898, Angelus was cursed by the Kalderash people as vengeance for killing their favorite daughter. They returned his soul, forcing him to live eternally in guilt over the countless crimes he had committed.
1. Spike. We know that Team Angel fans are probably screaming at their computers right now, but hear us out. There are plenty of reasons Spike was the most powerful vampire in the Buffyverse.
Angel (Warren Worthington III) is a mutant superhero in the Marvel Universe and a founding member of The X-Men and X-Factor. For a time, he also took on the identity of Archangel after being manipulated by the villain Apocalypse.
After Psylocke was eviscerated by X-Men prisoner Sabretooth during an escape attempt, Warren and the X-Men tracked him down and captured him, but not before he was able to badly damage Warren's metal wings. Over time, the damage to his wings spread.
After being sent back from Hell, the Angel Devil was unable to heal his severed arms. When Aki visits him in the hospital, aware that he can no longer serve his current role, he urges the Angel Devil to form contracts with devil hunters so as not to be hunted moving forward.
However, Angel becomes more and more aware of their limitations as a couple and breaks up with her in the hopes that she will be happier without him, leaving Sunnydale altogether after attending Buffy's prom and helping her in the battle against Mayor Wilkins (Harry Groener).
They are attacked by a Mohra demon; when Angel kills the demon he is restored to life by its powerful blood. After The Oracles — a link to The Powers That Be — confirm he is human again, Angel and Buffy spend a blissful night together.
"There's No Place Like Plrtz Glrb"
In the season 2 finale of Angel, the Angel Investigations team arrives back to the hotel to find a grief-stricken Willow sitting, waiting for them with some bad news: Buffy is dead.
Darla becomes pregnant, a unique occurrence for a vampire. She sacrifices herself in order to give birth to her and Angel's human son Connor, ending her run on the series.
In a seemingly impossible event, vampires Angel and Darla had a child, the end result being Connor, a human with superhuman abilities. Connor is introduced in the episode "Lullaby," when Darla sacrifices herself to give birth to him, by staking herself in the heart.
To deal with his anger, Liam went to a tavern where he got into a fight; after getting kicked out, he met Darla, a vampire who promised him the world of his dreams and sired him. Following this, Liam became Angelus, one of the most ruthless vampires in history who massacred his own family.
In total, Cordelia is the victim of mystical pregnancy three times during the series: from a Haxil beast in this episode, as host of an unborn Skilosh demon in "Epiphany," and from Connor while possessed by Jasmine, as first revealed in "Salvage."
In her final hours, Cordelia curiously became the pseudo-villain of the series after being possessed by the malevolent entity Jasmine. Instead of getting the kind of epic, valiant sendoff that other villains-turned-scoobies did for their finales, Cordelia simply fell into a coma and died unceremoniously in a hospital.
She was emptied out, replaced. Darla was subsumed with Connor's human soul. Fred became a shell through which Illyria could be reborn. And Cordelia's entire history was erased to make room for Jasmine.
Angel is the title character on the show. He's a vampire with a soul who was originally born in Galway, Ireland in 1727 and became a vampire in 1753 as the age of 26.
Buffy finally told Spike that she loved him — the first time she used the words "I love you" romantically to anyone since Angel —, but Spike replied: "No you don't, but thanks for saying it," and told her to leave him behind.
After he's done, Spike will get his body back. Hainsley takes Angel to his workshop; Angel wakes up and says that the Senior Partners won't be happy when they realize that Angel is missing. Hainsley tells him that he won't be missing: he'll turn up again, with Spike inside his body controlling him.
