Permethrin (Nix).
Before using permethrin, wash your child's hair with shampoo but not conditioner. Rinsing the hair with white vinegar before washing may help dissolve the glue that holds the nits to the hair shafts.
Malathion is pediculicidal (kills live lice) and partially ovicidal (kills some lice eggs). A second treatment is recommended if live lice still are present 7–9 days after treatment. Malathion is intended for use on persons 6 years of age and older.
No approved treatment for head lice can kill all the eggs during the first treatment. After applying the second treatment, comb through the hair with the lice comb. Wait two days to wash the hair. Continue to comb through the hair with the lice comb once a day.
Can vinegar kill lice eggs? Vinegar is one of the classic home remedies for lice. However, if you are trying to find out how to get rid of nits using vinegar, you should know that using vinegar to kill nits or lice eggs is totally ineffective. Vinegar has no negative effect on the lice eggs.
Apply liquid dish soap or shampoo directly to the hair BEFORE wetting it with water. Work the soap through the hair then add water. It may take a second washing to remove the oil. After washing, go through the hair and look for any remaining nits, removing them by hand.
Medicated lotions and sprays
These kill head lice in all types of hair, and you can buy them from pharmacies, supermarkets or online. Head lice should die within a day. Some lotions and sprays come with a comb to remove dead lice and eggs. Some treatments need to be repeated after a week to kill any newly hatched lice.
One of the best, most effective ways of getting rid of nits fast is to nit comb the hair using a long-toothed metal nit comb. You need to put some conditioner on the hair to lubricate the comb through the hair and then comb very thoroughly.
Does vinegar kill lice? Vinegar receives an “honorable mention,” because it has been touted as an aid in the removal of nits, but it doesn't kill adult lice. The acidic makeup of vinegar breaks down the glue-like substance that adheres the nits to the hair shaft.
Can someone have nits but no lice? It may be possible to have nits but no lice. If a person cannot find any nymphs or adult lice in the scalp and the nits are more than a quarter of an inch from the scalp, these may be dead and from an old infestation. However, the lice could be in hiding.
Mechanical removal or 'comb and conditioner' method
The conditioner does not kill lice but stuns them for about 20 minutes enabling easier removal. The long toothed metal comb will remove nits and the stunned head lice. Wipe the comb on a white tissue and check for any lice or nits.
Try the Apple Cider Vinegar and Olive Oil Tandem
After an hour, comb out your hair using a nit comb and pick out the lice and their eggs. Wash your hair with a little shampoo and rinse it with warm water. After that, soak your hair with the apple cider vinegar then cover it with a shower cap.
If they are full then they will be plump and shiny. What does a dead lice egg look like? A dead lice egg will be white or grey. As they are empty, they will be flat and dry.
Thoroughly douse your child's hair with vinegar and leave for 15 minutes to allow the vinegar to kill the lice.

KILL LICE: OIL AND VINEGAR MIXTURE
1. Mix together one cup oil and one cup white vinegar. 2. Pour mixture onto the hair and scalp.
Washing Procedure
There is no need for special chemicals or detergents to kill the lice. You don't need any unusual equipment or special training. The primary weapon against these bugs is… heat.
KP24. This is a medicated lotion and foam that provides fast and effective treatment. For optimum results, you need to use the lotion first and then follow with the foam. The active ingredient, Maldison, works by not only killing the lice but destroying the nits.
But if you're wondering will disinfectant spray kills lice on a human head, know this is ineffective, unhealthy, and dangerous.
While the ovicidal (egg-killing) property is not as good, with tea tree oil taking 5 days to cause a 50% kill rate, louse eggs hatch in 5-8 days, so prolonged use of tea tree oil over the course of 2 weeks could be an effective eradication measure.
You shouldn't see any crawling head lice after the first treatment if you applied it correctly. If you are still seeing live crawlers, then you may have missed a step or the treatment is not effective against the type of lice your child has.
Dead nits are often black in colour and are found well away from the scalp. Nits are laid on the hair shaft within 1cm of the scalp and take about 7-10 days to hatch into head lice.
