What is 3A Hair? The 3A hair type is characterized by loose, “S”-shaped spirals about the diameter of a piece of sidewalk chalk. Type 3A ringlets begin at the root, but this hair type is also prone to uneven curl distribution.
The 3A hair type is one of the most common curl types.
To recap, 3a is curly and wavy with minimum dryness, and with only a bit of moisture, it shines! 3b is bold, beautiful, and bouncy, while 3c is corkscrew-shaped and tightly curled.
3A - Your curl ringlets are forming regularly but are longer and more stretched out than curlier types. 3B- Your Curly hair is made up of looser and tighter ringlets.

Like all curly hair types, 3A hair is prone to damage, frizz, and dryness.
Type 3a hair is characterized by well-defined spiral curls that are typically the size of a piece of sidewalk chalk. Although the circumference of 3a curls is wider than that of 3b and 3c hair, it can be difficult to tell the three curl types apart.
Hair Texture
If it dries straight without a bend or curl, then you have straight hair (or type 1 hair as it is commonly referred to). If it dries with a slight curve or “S” shape, then it's considered wavy hair (type 2). If your hair dries with a defined curl or loop pattern, you have one of two curl types.
The sub-classifications from A to C are based on the width or diameter of your wave, curl or coil pattern. Type As have the widest pattern, Type Bs are in the middle, and Type Cs have the smallest of the three. Hair shape and texture are best determined when your hair is soaking wet.
Because type 3B curls are more tightly coiled than some other hair types, they are often coarser, drier, and more frizz-prone.
If your curls easily wrap around the sidewalk chalk, then you have type 3A hair. If the permanent marker is the best fit, then your hair type is 3B. If your spiral curls are the size of a pencil, you have type 3C hair.
Type 3A hair is fine and shiny with loose curls. This type of curly thick hair is easily defined without the use of styling products and is prone to slight frizz.
To keep the hair and scalp healthy and avoid product buildup, consider shampooing your 3A curls once or twice a week.
Type 3 and 4 are hair texture types for African-American hair. People who have type 3 hair have S shaped bouncy curls that are well defined, dry and slightly rough. This type has further three hair texture types for African-American hair: type 3a, 3b and 3c. 3a curls are springy and have a definite S shape.
Type 1A hair is very straight and fine, with no waves or curls whatsoever. This hair type tends to get very oily and requires frequent shampooing. It is the rarest hair type and is common among women of Asian descent.
Due to the more extreme curves and bends in 3c hair, this curl type experiences the most shrinkage. Natural oils (sebum) also find it difficult to traverse the twisting trajectory of your hair shafts. That's why 3c hair is the most vulnerable to dryness and frizz amongst the curly hair types.
The tight coils formed by 3C hair resemble a corkscrew and are about the diameter of a pencil. 3C hair can be fine to medium in texture and is prone to damage, breakage, and frizz. It can also lack volume.
Very curly hair is oftentimes classified as 3C. 3C hair is a curly hair type that is made up of tight coils with volume and lots of strands that are packed together to create this texture.
2A - A slight wave to your hair. 2B - Medium Wave form in the hair. 2C - Wavy hair that starts to form ringlets, especially when hydrated (wet) and styled correctly.
Curly hair and wavy hair tend to get a lot more frizzier when compared to straight hair. Your hair type is determined by the shape of your hair follicle. If you have a rounded follicle, your hair grows straight. If you have flat hair follicles, your hair type becomes wavy or curly, making it more prone to frizz.

Finger coils work on all-natural hair types. So, no matter if you're a 2C or a 4C girl, you can achieve wonderful results. Also, if your curl pattern tends to different in one section or your hair type is a 3B, but you have one section that is 4B, it's totally fine!
