A recent survey conducted by CyberPulse, a division of Impulse Research Corporation in Los Angeles uncovered this colorful research. Intelligence was the number one trait associated with brown, the most common eye color in the U.S., by 34 percent of respondents.
Of all eye colors, brown seems to be the only one that could be called “advantageous” from a survival perspective. While more research is needed, darker irises are linked to a number of health benefits, including these: Reduced risk of macular degeneration. Lower melanoma risk.

Lighter-colored eyes may mean an increased risk for cancer. Because lighter eyes have less pigment to protect them from harmful ultraviolet rays, it's true that light-eyed people have a greater lifetime risk for melanoma of the uvea, the middle layer of the eye, than their dark-eyed peers.
Although brightness may be an issue for light-eyed people, it's not directly related to the quality of their eyes and eyesight. In general, science has not found evidence that people with darker eyes have inherently better vision than those with paler irises.
Of those four, green is the rarest. It shows up in about 9% of Americans but only 2% of the world's population. Hazel/amber is the next rarest of these. Blue is the second most common and brown tops the list with 45% of the U.S. population and possibly almost 80% worldwide.
In a website poll of over 66,000 respondents, 20% said green was the most attractive, followed by hazel and light blue at 16%. Brown was far and away voted the least attractive (6%). But don't take it personally, brown-eyed people; you can always opt for colored contact lenses, just like they do in the movies.
