Shii-Cho, also known as Form I, is the oldest and most elementary form of lightsaber combat developed by the Jedi Order. Shii-Cho is still taught to youngling Jedis because it is the most basic. This style is known to be used when all other forms of combat have failed.
There are 7 forms of lightsaber combat, but Soreso, Shein, and Vaapad are the most effective. Soreso, Vaapad, Shein, are the most effective forms because they are all strategic and have their strengths and weaknesses.
Classical Juyo
Juyo was described as the most vicious form of lightsaber combat and was said to be filled with both fury and "malignant grace." The form was given the title of the most difficult and demanding form in all of the lightsaber combat.
Obi-Wan Kenobi adopts a Form I stance. Form I was the most ancient lightsaber form still in use at the time of the Jedi's fall. In fact, it was the first form created, codifying standard lightsaber techniques in the early centuries of the Jedi Order.
The most common lightsaber stance/form in the galaxy is Shii Cho, The Determination Form. It is not only one of the oldest forms but one of the most accessible, which is why it is often used when first training padawans.
Darth Sidious was also one of the greatest and most skilled Sith swordmasters, as he has mastered all the seven lightsaber forms, all their stances and techniques and is capable of using each form equally effective ambidextrously.
Through the Force, Yoda was considered to have mastered Form IV to its highest level. He used it in almost all of his battles, and his mastery of the style caused others to describe him as virtually unstoppable against most opponents, including Separatist battle droids, despite his small size and advanced age.

Form VI, also known as Niman, was the sixth form of lightsaber combat used by members of the Jedi Order. It could be used to combine double-bladed lightsaber combat with other Force abilities, like pushes and lifts.
Kathracite crystals were the weakest of the Adegan crystrals and often used to create training lightsabers for the younglings who were apart of the Jedi Order. They produced a weak pale green blade which produced very little heat and was impossible to inflict wounds.
Red lightsabers are the weakest, according to a Star Wars study conducted at the University of Leicester regarding lightsaber colors. Decades of Star Wars lore has dictated that the red lightsabers favored by The Sith offered greater offensive capabilities than the softer colors favored by The Jedi.
Black lightsabers are extremely rare in the Star Wars universe, and only a few have been seen on screen. These lightsabers are typically associated with the Dark Side of the Force and wielded by Sith or Dark Jedi. Form VII is the last known form of lightsaber combat and is known to be the most aggressive. Jedi Master Mace windu is the main Jedi known to use this form of combat because Form VII is the most aggressive and only the most Force-sensitive individuals can execute this form successfully.
Form VII, known by its two primary disciplines of Juyo and Vaapad; and also known as The Ferocity Form, was the seventh form of lightsaber combat. It was considered the most aggressive and unpredictable form.
Notable practitioners
Grand Master Yoda and Swordmaster Mace Windu were also proficient in its usage, as they were said to have fully mastered all the seven forms of lightsaber combat. Master Kirlocca of the Almas Academy was also credited as having mastered Form I.
Rey's lightsaber was a yellow-bladed lightsaber that was constructed by the Jedi Rey Skywalker following the First Order-Resistance War.
Sokan was a form of lightsaber combat. Developed by the ancient Jedi Knights during the Great Sith War, Sokan combined tactics that allowed for evasion and mobility with the kinetic motions of Form V combat.
A graceful combat style, it became a specialist form for duels with Sith opponents. Form II relied on careful and controlled strikes instead of power and strength. Count Dooku was a master of this form and trained the Sith assassin Asajj Ventress in its use, though hers was less elegant than her master's.

At first, Rey primarily fights with a lightsaber the same way she would have with her quarterstaff. However, after studying Luke's Jedi scripture and training with Leia, Rey probably uses Form VI: Niman, a jack-of-all-trades lightsaber form that combines different aspects of Forms I through V.

In fact, Yoda was trained in all seven forms of lightsaber combat and had full mastery and knowledge of all of them. He was considered to be the best instructor at the Jedi Temple when it came to lightsaber combat, knowing which forms were most appropriate for each of his students.
However, Mace Windu—the legendary Jedi Master who popularized purple lightsabers—made modifications to Form VII that aligned it with Jedi philosophy and earned the endorsement of the Council. Windu's Jedi-approved variant of Form VII is known as Vaapad.
