A do not disturb feature allows you to choose when and how you want to be updated with incoming alerts and notifications. With this feature, it's easier to mute all calls, notifications and alerts for tools like desk phones, soft phones, mobile devices and chat/collaboration tools.
Phone calls will go straight to your voicemail when the Do Not Disturb mode is enabled on iPhone and Android devices. You will not receive any type of popups or other interruptions on your screen.
Even when DND mode is enabled, you continue to receive calls, text messages, and other notifications on your phone. The only difference is that your phone will not ring or vibrate in response to those calls and notifications. You'll see all those missed calls, text messages, and notifications when you use your phone.
Do Not Disturb is a mode on smartphones and tablets that silences most, if not all, incoming notifications. This can include phone calls, text messages, and app notifications. The action that would generate a notification still occurs, but the notification will be silenced and won't activate the device's display.

With your phone on DND, you're more able to check off things in your notebook and move on to the next without distractions!
When your iPhone is on Do Not Disturb mode, incoming calls will go to your voicemail, and you will see a missed call. For the callers, it will come across as though your phone is switched off or out of coverage.
In silent mode only your phone is muted for calls, messages & notifications but your display light turns on every time you get a call or message but, in Do Not Disturb Mode your phone does not wake or display light does not glow on arrival of any call or message.
It's all about Starred and Priority conversations. One of the limitations of this is that you cannot select individual contacts to get around Do Not Disturb. However, you can opt for either Starred or Priority conversations.
Incoming calls from numbers listed in your blocked numbers list, will not make your phone ring and the call will be automatically rejected. No, DND doesn't block calls, as it only make your phone complete silent no ring no vibration at all.
Select “Do Not Disturb.” Select “People." Find it under the “Allowed Notifications” tab. Add yourself to the “Allow Calls From” list. Now, you'll be able to call them at any time—even when their phone is on silent.
With Focus in iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 or later, you can use Do Not Disturb to silence calls, alerts, and notifications that you get while your device is locked. You can also schedule Do Not Disturb and allow calls from certain people.
Here, you can choose to allow calls or messages (or both) from your “starred” contacts, even when Do Not Disturb is on. This allows you to block most notifications but allow those from your spouse, mother or other important people.
When you call a number that has blocked yours, you may hear one or half a ring or no rings at all and then the call will go to voicemail. If it goes straight to voicemail, their phone may also be off or out of range, or they may have temporarily turned on Do Not Disturb mode to work, drive, or sleep.

You simply have to type a regular text message and tap send, if the person's phone is turned off or out of service, it'll take longer than normal to send a message. And, it indicates that the receiver's phone is likely off.
The person you're texting has turned on a Focus Mode.
If you text the person while notifications are silenced, they'll still get your message—they just won't see a notification pop up on their screen until they've switched off the Focus Mode.
With Bedtime mode, you can set your sleep and wake-up times and repeat alarms for them every day. You can also enable DnD mode within that time to prevent calls, messages, and notifications. However, DnD mode is optional. If you want your favorite contacts and apps to reach you, disable DnD.
While you will get calls, messages, and app notifications, your phone won't play notification sounds if it is in the silent mode. You will have to check your phone manually to see them. Same is the case with the do not disturb mode, but here you can customize it to allow certain tones.
If you have enabled your Android's Do Not Disturb, most or all of your phone calls will go directly to voicemail. So it's worth checking to see if this mode has been accidentally turned on.
Your device won't vibrate or make sounds when you get a call, message, or notification. You won't hear sounds from music, videos, games, or other media. During a phone call, you'll still be able to hear the other person.
Android users may determine if someone has blocked their number by checking notifications. If the “sent” icon changes to “delivered,” the receiver is likely not blocked you. On the other hand, if it stays on “sent,” there's a good chance they have blocked your number.
It's handy if you're in the cinema, at a meeting, about to go to sleep, or for any other reason don't want to be disturbed.
