In the Bible, righteousness means being morally right and in right standing with God, reflecting His holy character through just actions, integrity, and fulfilling divine standards, which humans can't achieve alone but receive as a gift through faith in Jesus Christ, who perfectly fulfilled God's law. It encompasses God's inherent perfect justice and the imparted holiness for believers, involving right relationships with God and others.
The simplest answer to that question is this: Righteousness is doing what is right in the sight of God. This is a simple definition that is far more complex under the surface. To be righteous is to do everything that God calls us to do.
We are made righteous in the eyes of God by the blood of Jesus. Through His death and resurrection, and our acceptance of that free gift, our sins are forgiven and God sees us as righteous. This is called justification.
When Paul speaks of the “righteousness of God” and “righteousness,” he refers to our right-standing with God, the fact that we are now in a new and right relationship with him. The word does not mean that God's people are internally transformed by his grace.
However, Scripture calls some people the righteous: these are those whose faith in and love for God causes them to order their lives according to God's laws (Psalm 1:2; 1 John 3:7); God bestows righteousness on them because he counts faith as righteousness (Genesis 15:6; Philippians 3:9).

E. Stanley Jones, theologian. The four kinds of righteousness are performative righteousness, comparative righteousness, infused righteousness, and practical righteousness. CCC 1814: Faith is the theological virtue by which we believe in God and believe all that he has said and revealed to us.
Specifically Jesus gave us three acts of righteousness to practice. Giving to the needy, prayer, and fasting. To ignore these is to only miss out on the blessed reward our Father has for us through them. But to do them before man makes us worse off – hypocrites.

7 Benefits of Righteousness
Paul indicates in Romans 3:21–26 that righteousness is the Lord's gift to believers (the righteousness of God is for all who believe). Second Corinthians 5:21 says we become the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
These fruits would include things like kindness, love, patience, honesty, gentleness, self-control, diligence, and so forth. These are not merely the result of a sincere effort to be good and do the right thing.
The Hebrew word tzedek means "righteousness" or "justice" and is one of the attributes of the LORD God of Israel. God is called the LORD our Righteousness (יהוה צִדְקֵנוּ), the Righteous God (אֱלהִים צַדִּיק), the Righteous Judge (שׁוֹפֵט צַדִּיק), and so on.
There is to be a desire at the heart level to honor the vows you make, speak truthfully to others, not murder in your heart in anger, not hate others, be content in your circumstances, and abhor idols. These are some of the actions of righteous people.

Practice Righteousness in Daily Life • Make choices that reflect integrity and moral uprightness. This includes being honest in your dealings, compassionate in your interactions, and ethical in your conduct. There are two types of righteousness: 1) The type invented by men and institutions, and 2) The type given by God. The biblical Greek definition of righteous (δικαιοσύνη) is; Right standing; The condition acceptable to God.
In Matthew 5:6, Jesus Talks About Right Relating With Others
When he tells people to “hunger and thirst for righteousness,” we may assume that he's talking about a personal desire for holiness. But righteousness, according to Jesus and the rest of the Bible, is about right relating in the ways of love.
Romans 3:22-25(HCSB) But now, apart from the law, God's righteousness has been revealed—attested by the law and the prophets —that is, God's righteousness through faith in Jesus Christ, to all who believe, since there is no distinction. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Righteousness is the word of God. The three pillars of righteousness are truth, mercy, and knowledge.
