If left untreated, benign cysts can cause serious complications including: Infection – the cyst fills with bacteria and pus, and becomes an abscess. If the abscess bursts inside the body, there is a risk of blood poisoning (septicaemia).
Symptoms of an epidermoid cyst

Although people can pop some noninflamed whiteheads and blackheads if they take the necessary precautions, they should never try to pop or extract inflamed acne. This type of acne is deeper in the skin and may be more likely to cause scarring and infection if a person tries to squeeze it.
On the other hand, bumps caused by STDs, like herpes sores or genital warts, are often accompanied by pain, itching, or changes in appearance, and they tend to appear near the vulva, vagina, and anus.
What does an epidermal inclusion cyst (sebaceous cyst) look like? An epidermal inclusion cyst may have the following features: A round bump or dome-shaped lump. A dark dot (punctum) in the center of the cyst.
Texture: Cysts feel smooth and are often compressible; skin cancers tend to be firm or hard. Pore or center: Many cysts have a visible opening or dimple; cancerous lesions typically do not. Growth: Cysts may remain stable or grow slowly; skin cancers often grow persistently or change rapidly.
Signs and Symptoms of an Epidermoid Cyst
They often have a central small black dot, or punctum, through which sebum accumulates. Sometimes, however, they can become inflamed, infected, or suddenly rupture, which can increase the risk of infection (more on that later).
Boils start as red, tender bumps that quickly become swollen and filled with pus. Within days, they develop a white or yellow center as the infection progresses.
Pustular acne is typically red, inflamed, and has a white head filled with yellow, white, or cream-colored pus that oozes out of the pimple if the pustule becomes broken open or pierced.
