The Vecna feeds on nightmares and guilt and sorrow like it's one of the Seven Deadly Sins.
Vecna lives in the Upside Down and preys on people's past traumas and guilt. The monster curses its victims, making them relive their trauma in progressively more gruesome ways until it violently kills them.
Vecna feeds off his victims' trauma and haunts them with their own darkest thoughts. In order to make those scenes with Vecna even more terrifying, brothers Matt and Ross Duffer decided that they wanted to bring him to life on set with practical effects.
Powers and Abilities. Harnessing psychic abilities, Vecna can detect humans in Hawkins, and just like Eleven, he can use telekinesis to kill his opponents. Unlike Eleven however, he can also use advanced telepathy and create false visions in his victims, which makes him even more dangerous.
Essentially, Vecna hates humanity, and wants to take over their world. He had hoped that Eleven would help him achieve this goal. But when he realised she wouldn't, Vecna instead used her.
So the connection between Will and Vec — Can I call Vecna/Henry/One just “Vec”? — is one of sheer chance. They are connected because Will was the first victim. That's it.
He describes spiders as “endlessly fascinating” and also finds “a great comfort in them." He believes the kinship is because both he and they are solitary creatures and apparently deeply misunderstood.
While intending to get his revenge on Eleven and Brenner, Vecna also goes after victims who have dealt with traumatizing experiences in the past (reminiscent of his childhood and his time at the Hawkins lab).
His main weakness is not any particular set of traits, but a constraint imposed by his location: the Chaotic Quest entrance is a portal rather than a staircase, and Vecna is covetous. Vecna will therefore readily warp to you, but will not teleport away to heal.
In 4th edition, the Open Grave book shows the leader of the cult of Vecna is a lich named Mauthereign.
Once he takes control of the mind, he traumatizes them by showing the visions of their dark past. He takes them to unknown places and gives them a glimpse of himself. The pain of his victims doesn't end here. Every single one of his victims experiences nose bleeding and severe headaches as well.

Ultimately, it is revealed in Stranger Things season 4's finale that the reason why Vecna was killing Hawkins teenagers was to create a massive gate that merges the Right Side Up with the Upside Down - and he specifically needed four bodies to do so.

Trauma fuels him
Also in episode 8 of Season 4 named “Papa,” Dr. Brenner stated that Vecna consumes everything about his victims.
Realizing he had tremendous psychic power, he haunted his family with visions before ultimately killing most of them. His father was framed for the murders and locked away in a mental hospital as a disturbed serial killer. Henry then found himself in the care of Brenner, who decided he wanted more kids like the boy.
The Eye and Hand of Vecna can only be destroyed by the Sword of Kas, the sentient chaotic evil sword of Vecna's former vampire general, Kas.
Music evokes strong memories that are both good and bad, so it makes sense that it could open a doorway out of the oppressive alienation of trauma, despair, and guilt that Max found herself in.
In simple words, Vecna needs a total of four gates to take over Hawkins and rule it. Now, you must be thinking, why is Vecna killing people if he can take over the complete Hawkins? Well, in one of the previous episodes, it was revealed that with each person Vecna kills, he creates an opening to the real world.
When One massacres the rest of the children in Hawkins Lab, Eleven banishes him to the Upside Down in the same way she banishes the Demogorgon from season one. One is sent hurtling through the Mind Flayer's lightning and is horribly disfigured, transforming into Vecna.
Vecna's first big credited kill was Chrissy Cunningham (Grace Van Dien). He followed that murder with canonically terrible driver Fred Benson (Logan Riley Bruner) and basketball star Patrick McKinney (Myles Truitt).
This is because his trusted accomplice, Kas the Bloody-Handed, betrayed him and used the sword Vecna created himself to chop off his left hand and remove his left eye. This ultimately destroyed Vecna. Though they're clouded with cataracts, Vecna in Stranger Things has both of his eyes.
