The Elves made the Three Rings to try to halt the passage of time, or as Tolkien had Elrond say, "to preserve all things unstained". This was seen most clearly in Lothlórien, which was free of both evil and the passage of time. The Three do not make their wearers invisible.
The Elves of Eregion created the rings to preserve their lands, attempting to make them as beautiful as Valinor. Thus, a primary power of the rings was to prevent and decelerate decay and change. The rings also increased a bearer's own natural powers, seemingly granting 'magic' abilities.
The Ring's primary power was control of the other Rings of Power and domination of the wills of their users. The Ring also conferred power to dominate the wills of other beings whether they were wearing Rings or not—but only in proportion to the user's native capacity.
Is The Rings of Power related to the Peter Jackson movies? It is related, in that it's a prequel to the stories Jackson told in the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings film trilogies. It is not related, in that Jackson himself was not involved in making The Rings of Power.
On the official Rings of Power podcast, they reminded listeners that there are five known wizards in Tolkien's canon, including Gandalf, Saruman, Radagast, and the mysterious Blue Wizards, Alatar and Pallandro.

The Stranger Arrives
At the end of the first episode, a mysterious man fell from the skies and crash-landed in Middle-earth. Known only as the Stranger, this man was discovered by Nori, a Hobbit of the Harfoots clan. Completely disoriented and with no idea who he is, the Stranger befriended the Hobbit.
For The Rings of Power, Númenórian hatred of Elves built over time out of jealously for their immortality. In The Silmarillion, Tolkien outlines the downfall of Númenor as a slow burn that began with the Ban of the Valar, which entailed the first Númenórians agreeing to never sail west toward Valinor.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Jackson said Amazon asked him and Lord of the Rings writer-producer Fran Walsh if they wanted to be involved in the TV series. Jackson said he and Walsh could not agree to do so until they saw a script, and this is where communication ended, apparently.

As for Sam, his resistance likely has to do with his innate goodness and loyalty. His love for Frodo helped him to overcome the pull of the Ring and his inner pureness was never fully pierced by the Ring.
Galadriel has very strong magical powers, and she is said to be the greatest of the Ñoldor after Fëanor. The majority of her powers come from her Ring of Power, Nenya, the Ring of Water.
The first is that Bilbo is a hobbit, and as such, is particularly difficult to manipulate or corrupt. Hobbits have a natural resistance to the influence of the ring, because they are fully content in their simple lives and have no desires for power or war.

The series produced by Amazon Prime features actors who are not particularly famous. Therefore, Galadriel is not played by Cate Blanchett, but by Morfydd Clark, a Welsh actress who will give life to a younger Galadriel.
Why are people upset about The Rings of Power? Tolkien fans whose imagined version of Middle-earth puts white people front and center have taken issue with the show's casting. They claim The Rings of Power is doing a disservice to the books, which Tolkien based on ancient European civilizations.

Unlike humans, who are susceptible to old age and illness, Elves do not have such weakness. While many people take immortality to mean they cannot die at all, the reality is that Elves are simply immune to illness and old age, but can in fact still be killed by severe injury.

In the Rings of Power season finale, Weyman's Stranger is confronted at a vulnerable moment. The witches call him Sauron, ending weeks of speculation.
