Voldemort, seeking to punish Lucius Malfoy still further for the botched capture of Harry, demanded that Draco perform a task so difficult that he would almost certainly fail – and pay with his life. Draco was to murder Albus Dumbledore – how, Voldemort did not trouble to say.
Voldemort assigned the task to Draco as punishment for Lucius' failure at the Department of Mysteries in OotP. He did not expect him to succeed. It's explained in the books. Draco was given the mission as punishment for Lucius since he failed to retrieve the prophecy from the Department of Mysteries.
Lord Voldemort charged Draco with making up for Lucius's failure, and he became a Death Eater at age sixteen but was quickly disillusioned with the lifestyle.
Voldemort didn't care if Draco succeeded in killing Dumbledore he only cared that he died, he was more then happy with Draco and the rest of pathetic family living at the bottom of metaphorical food chain just so he could constantly rub in how pathetic they were.
In the sixth book called the Half Blood Prince, Draco is charged with the responsibility to find a way to sneak Death Eaters into Hogwarts and to kill Dumbledore.
That's not a joke, he actually doesn't work. Rowling shared on Pottermore, “Independently wealthy, without any need to work, Draco inhabits Malfoy Manor with his wife and son.” He lives off of inheritance money!, so the lucky man can dedicate his life to hobbies without the stress of making money.
Malfoy spots Harry and casts a Cruciatus curse; Harry, defending himself, using the Half-Blood Prince's Sectumsempra spell without knowing its effects. To his horror, it gashes Draco's face and chest, spilling his blood everywhere.
“Dumbledore didn't want to lose his wand at that point and Draco disarmed him. So that meant that the wand gave Draco its allegiance, even though Draco never knew it, even though Draco never touched it. “From that moment on, that wand gave its allegiance to Draco, and it wouldn't work as well for anyone but Draco.”
Specifically, Draco was jealous of Harry. It was easy to miss because Draco didn't often show his emotions, modelling himself on his cold, confident, calculating father, but J.K. Rowling has confirmed that a lot of his enmity towards Harry stemmed from envy.
Voldemort hugged Draco as an improvisation and it wasn't planned. Even Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) was caught unaware which increased the effect. In Harry Potter style, it was like a welcome for Draco, but as Voldemort had never known love, he didn't know how to hug him very well. Thats why they had the awkward hug.
Narcissa's greatest moment, however, was when she chose to betray Voldemort in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Not knowing whether Draco was alive or dead, Narcissa chose to lie to the Dark Lord rather than risk losing her son.
Having gone through the horrors of the second wizarding war as a Death Eater, Draco abandoned the pure-blood beliefs he was originally devoted to, and grew to become a better person than he was in his youth, growing more tolerant and accepting of the non-pure-bloods of the wizarding world.
Having rendered unknown, shady, (and almost certainly magical) services to King William I, Malfoy was given a prime piece of land in Wiltshire, seized from local landowners, upon which his descendants have lived for ten consecutive centuries.
13. Couldn't Stand: Draco Malfoy. Draco showed too many similarities to his father, which caused Voldemort to dislike him. In an effort to both punish Lucius for his failures and attempt to force Draco into his ranks, Voldemort made Draco do many awful things.
Draco's refusal to reveal Harry's identity to Bellatrix was not because he liked him. It was because he believed that Harry was the only chance they had at defeating Voldemort. At first, Draco admired and revered Voldemort until he threatened his family's safety.
In his memoir, Felton said that Fiennes improvised Voldemort awkwardly hugging Draco Malfoy. "It gave me goosebumps then, and the memory gives me goosebumps now," Felton wrote.
Lucius Malfoy did nothing to dispel this hateful impression and was a fully signed up supporter of pure-blood supremacy. In fact, he was in Lord Voldemort's closest circle as a Death Eater. He despised Muggles, Muggle-borns, those he saw as blood traitors and tried to instil those values in his family.
In a recent interview, J.K. Rowling said that Draco had strong positive feelings for Hermoine, and would always have "lingering" feelings. However, due to his upbringing, he was unable to act on those feelings, and instead made fun of her, gaining some attention that way.
Even while he was with Ginny, Harry was always in love with Draco.” To which Tom said, “I think it was clearly a fact. Harry was constantly crushing on Draco. He just couldn't hide it.” Grint added, “I think he made quite an impression on Ron, as well”.
He reluctantly becomes a Death Eater but is incapable of inflicting any real harm on others. He even refuses to rat Harry out to Bellatrix in Malfoy Manor. Draco's role in the story is to be a childhood rival to Harry, but he is not a killer; in the end, he's not even a bad person.
He attempted to kill Dumbledore, but Dumbledore tried to convince Draco not to perform the task. Draco said that he had no choice. Otherwise, Lord Voldemort would murder him and his family. Dumbledore told Draco that he shouldn't do this, and that Draco was not a killer.
Warning The Trio To Keep Hermione Safe
At the Quidditch World Cup, Draco is quick to sneer at the Trio, and warn them to keep Hermione out of sight - as a Muggle-born, she could well be a target for the wizards rioting and tormenting the Muggle camp-owner.
Blood spurts from Draco's face and chest, and Myrtle beings screaming. Snape bursts into the room and heals Draco's wounds almost immediately. Snape hurries Draco to the hospital wing, commanding Harry to wait behind.
Narcissa Malfoy's Very Dangerous Lie
But she was also a mother, which meant she was willing to risk everything to make sure her son was safe. When Harry survived Voldemort's Killing Curse for the second time, Narcissa pretended he was dead so she could get to Draco.
She asked him because if Draco was still alive, she had something to fight for. She had a reason to lie to Voldemort. If Draco is alive, she needs to get into the school to see him and protect him, and helping Harry feign death was the easiest way to do that. But if Draco was already dead, she wouldn't have bothered.
