Japan invaded numerous countries and territories during WWII, including China, French Indochina (Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia), Thailand, Malaya (Malaysia), the Philippines, Dutch East Indies (Indonesia), Burma, Hong Kong, Guam, and Wake Island, plus parts of the U.S. territory of Alaska (Aleutian Islands). These invasions, starting before the Pearl Harbor attack, expanded the Japanese Empire across Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific.
In December 1941, Guam, Wake Island, and Hong Kong fell to the Japanese. This was followed in the first half of 1942 by the Philippines, Burma, the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia), Malaya, and Singapore. Japanese troops also invaded neutral Thailand.
