Australian safety symbols use specific colours to convey meaning: Red for prohibition/danger (no entry, fire), Yellow for warnings (hazards, caution), Blue for mandatory actions (wear PPE), and Green for emergency/first aid (exits, first aid stations), following AS 1319 standards for clear visual communication.
Red – Prohibition and fire safety signs. Yellow/Amber – Warning signs. Blue – Mandatory signs. Green – Emergency escape and first aid signs.
Australian Standard 1319 specifies that Warning Signs should be used to warn of a hazard or hazardous condition that is not likely to be life threatening. For all life threatening conditions a Danger Sign should be used. Warning Signs shall comprise the yellow triangle with a black exclamation mark.

Colours are powerful communicators, capable of conveying information quickly and effectively. In safety signage, colours are strategically chosen to evoke specific responses and convey messages. Understanding the meaning behind each colour is fundamental to interpreting safety signs accurately.

Training Bullet Points:
Five key types of safety signs are Prohibition, Mandatory, Warning, Emergency, and Fire Safety, each using distinct colors (red, blue, yellow, green) and shapes to convey critical information about what not to do, what to do, potential hazards, emergency exits, and fire equipment locations, helping prevent accidents and guide people to safety.
Because it is the brightest color to the human eye, yellow is frequently used for warning signs or to designate areas in which caution should be taken. They alert workers to hazards and help keep them safe. Safety signs in Australia are standardised in accordance with the Australian Standard AS1319:2004. The standard defines the type of safety signs that must be used based on the kind of danger or hazard that is present in the workplace.
Definition of Safety Colors
A red background signals immediate danger or the presence of fire protection equipment. Yellow warns of potential risks that require caution. Orange indicates a serious hazard that falls between caution and danger. Green identifies safe conditions, such as first aid stations or exit routes.
Warning. Warning signs are diamond shaped and are yellow or orange with black letters or symbols. They warn of dangerous or unusual conditions ahead, such as a curve, turn, dip or side road.
Safety Signs:
Red – indicates (1) danger, (2) stop or (3) presence of fire protection equipment. Orange – marks the dangerous parts of machines or energized equipment which may cut, crush, shock or injure employees.
And when it comes to the color which catches our attention the most, you might be surprised to find that it's not red, blue, or even green. In fact, it's yellow.
Mandatory signs are circular blue signs with a white icon. These signs alert people to actions they are required to take in a given area or while performing a given task. For example, mandatory signs often indicate the required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) like hard hats, ear protection, masks, etc.
