A size 8 and a size 9 are for bigger babies and older kids who aren't trained. Example: A size 8 diaper is for babies over 50 pounds and a size 9 diaper is for older children who are not potty trained and they go up to over 70+ pounds.

As a rule of thumb, babies reportedly tend to stay in size 3 for the longest period of time — about six months by some estimates. Assuming six or seven diaper changes per day, this could mean you might need anywhere between 1,000 to 12,000 size-3 diapers before moving on.

During the first few days of life, breastfed newborns have about 3 wet diapers a day. After that, they have 6 or more wet diapers a day throughout the first month of life.
Tip 4: Size up.
Diaper companies know this, so larger sizes are designed to hold more urine. By sizing up your diaper, you're basically increasing your absorbency. For example, a Huggies Size 6 diaper holds 7 to 13 more ounces than their Size 5 diaper.

The reason behind diaper price hikes
It's simple: producers want to offset higher input and raw material costs so their margins don't get squeezed. Commodity prices have been rising, thanks to high demand for products, supply-chain disruptions and surging shipping costs.
Sizing. For infants and toddlers, Huggies are available in Preemie size, Newborn (up to 10lb), Size 1 (8-14 lb), Size 1-2 (15 lb), Size 2 (12-18lb), Size 3 (16-28lb) and Size 4 (22-37lb). For preschoolers and adolescents, Huggies are available in Size 5 (28+ pounds) and Size 6 (35+ lbs).
