According to StreetGangs.com, a website that interviews gang members, the 52 Hoover Crips originated in Los Angeles in the 1970s. The group derives its name from the two streets where they originated: 52nd Street and Hoover Street.
This gang was co-found by 16-year-old Raymond Washington and Stanley Tookie Williams III. Even before the Crips however, there was a gang known as the Hoover Groovers. The Hoover Groovers would later form an alliance with the Crips and change their name to Hoover Crips.
Crips traditionally refer to each other as "Cuz" or "Cuzz", which itself is sometimes used as a moniker for a Crip. "Crab" is the most disrespectful epithet to call a Crip, and can warrant fatal retaliation.
Stanley Tookie Williams III (December 29, 1953 – December 13, 2005) was an American gangster who co-founded and led the Crips gang in Los Angeles. He and Raymond Washington formed an alliance in 1971 that established the Crips as Los Angeles' first major African-American street gang.

The majority of Gangster crips wear Navy Blue, with sub sets wearing other solid or added colors as secondary, like Grey, Black, Purple, White, Grey and even Yellow. Some of the Neighborhoods are known to wear powder blue or baby blue, with sub clicks adding or wearing the same secondary colors above.
