For others, a grade 6, 7 or even an 8 would be considered good. This depends on the expectations that each individual student has about their own abilities. Essentially, any grade that you feel you are happy with above the standard pass grades of 4 or 5 can be labelled as 'good'.
As per the guide below, issued by the exams regulator Ofqual, the numerical system essentially boils down to the following: 9 = High A* grade. 8 = Lower A* or high A.
Grades 4 to 6 at GCSE are suggestive of Cs and Ds at A-level – which won't be enough to get into some universities. The more competitive the university and course, the higher the number of high-achieving students with top GCSE marks applying. Read more: what are university entry requirements?
Is a grade 8 at GCSE considered an A*? More or less. Grade 9 was deliberately set at being higher than the previous A*, so fewer people should get 9 than would have got an A*. 8 is higher than an A but perhaps ever so slightly lower than an A*.
A grade 7 is now equal to a grade A in the old system.
As mentioned above, any grade below a 4 in the 9-1 grading system will be registered as a fail, so if you score 3 in a subject, then you will have to retake it to earn the qualification. Keep in mind that grades 3,2, and 1 are the equivalent of: D. E.
A-plusses, if given, are usually assigned a value of 4.0 (equivalent to an A) due to the common assumption that a 4.00 is the best possible grade-point average, although 4.33 is awarded at some institutions. In some places, .25 or .3 instead of .33 is added for a plus grade and subtracted for a minus grade.
The A* at A Level is awarded to candidates who achieve a grade A on the A Level overall (80%), and who also achieve at least 90% on the uniform mark scale (UMS) across their A2 units.

Grade 9 is the equivalent of above an A* Grade 8 is the equivalent of in between grades A* and A.
Is 6th grade hard? Although 6th grade will be harder than 5th grade, if you work hard and try your best, it will be fine. Is the middle school easy to get lost in? Although the middle school is large, it is laid out so that it is hard to get lost in.
Grade 8 piano is the highest practical graded music exam available in the UK. It is not, however, the highest piano qualification you can take.
A 9 grade isn't exactly the same as an old money A*: essentially it's better, as an 8 is also roughly equivalent to the lower half of the A* band and a higher A.
Is 80% an "A" in Australian High Schools? In high schools throughout Australia, a grade of "B" (Good) is awarded for attaining a minimum score of 80%. To receive an "A" grade (Excellent), students must score 85% or higher in any given subject, course, or assignment.
Grade E means you have scored marks less than 40% and the qualitative level is unsatisfactory and your point grade is 1/5. Therefore, yes, the grade E in whether it is B. Ed. or any other course means fail or unsatisfactory or re-appearing in the examination.
C - this is a grade that rests right in the middle. C is anywhere between 70% and 79% D - this is still a passing grade, and it's between 59% and 69% F - this is a failing grade.
Letter Grades. A+, A, A- indicates excellent performance. B+, B, B- indicates good performance. C+, C, C- indicates satisfactory performance. D+, D, D- indicates less than satisfactory performance.
Australian equivalent
In Australia, this level of class is called Year 3. Children generally start this level between the ages of eight and nine.
