Tinnitus duration varies widely, from minutes or days (temporary, often after loud noise) to months or a lifetime (chronic), typically defined as lasting over 3-6 months and requiring professional management, though many cases, even chronic ones, can improve or habituate over time with strategies like sound therapy.
If your ears are ringing after you leave a loud concert, it's probably temporary. But if you still have tinnitus after a week or two, there's probably something else going on. There's no standard tinnitus cure. But providers can often treat underlying conditions and help you manage your symptoms.
If you experience your tinnitus in short bursts, maybe only a few minutes each, there's a good chance that it will fade over time. However, if it has been going on for months or even years, then it's likely that the condition is permanent.
If you take medication to treat your high blood pressure, it could cause tinnitus. Both loop diuretics and aspirin are commonly used to treat this issue, as both are blood thinners. It is believed that blood-thinning medication can cause temporary tinnitus when taken regularly.

The noises of tinnitus may vary in pitch from a low roar to a high squeal, and you may hear it in one or both ears. In some cases, the sound can be so loud it interferes with your ability to concentrate or hear external sound. Tinnitus may be present all the time, or it may come and go.

Many people find listening to music very helpful. Focusing on music may help you forget about your tinnitus for a while. It can also help hide the sound. Other people like to listen to recorded nature sounds, such as ocean waves, the wind, or crickets.
If the tinnitus resulted from a potentially reversible issue, such as an earwax blockage, ear infection, or medication side effect, addressing the cause may lead to resolution. In these cases, the tinnitus may lessen or potentially disappear altogether.
If left untreated, excessive earwax may cause earwax impaction symptoms to worsen. These symptoms might include hearing loss, ear irritation, tinnitus and other issues. A buildup of earwax might also make it difficult to see into your ear, which may result in potential issues going undiagnosed.
