There is no recovery time with this procedure, you can go about your daily busy as normal. However, you may experience some side effects, including swelling, redness and bruising. These are generally minimal and will subside in 1-2 days.
That said, these injectable treatments take some time to integrate into your tissues, and it's normal for your dermal filler to take up to two weeks to fully settle into your face.
Some people experience mild bruising for the first one to two days after the procedure. In rare cases, bruising may last up to ten days. To reduce your risk of bruising, it's recommended you avoid blood-thinning medications or alcohol in the days leading up to your procedure.
As with any other, the kind of bruise you get from fillers will usually subside within 5-7 days. Inherent in any kind of injection is the risk of bruising or swelling – this comes with the territory of putting a sharp needle into the skin.
The filler can take several weeks to soften and settle into your skin. This means that patients won't see the ultimate results of their treatment immediately. Although individual results will vary, many people achieve the full effect within two weeks after receiving their injections.
Bruising happens in about 19% to 24% of filler patients, though by some estimates that number is much higher. The reason that bruising is a common side effect of dermal fillers is that small blood vessels may be damaged during the injections.
Among HA fillers, Restylane was the most common (54.7%), followed by Teosyal Pure (9.8%) and Juvederm Ultra XC (9.8%). Overall patient satisfaction rate was 84.4%, with overall long-term patient satisfaction (6+ months later) of 76.7%.
Swelling after the procedure usually peaks 1-2 days later. In most patients, the swelling is much better after 4-5 days, but there can be milder swelling which takes weeks to resolve completely. Under eye fillers can often look lumpy after the procedure.

Fillers work by tissue expansion, similar to how a sponge expands when absorbing water. Fillers expand the facial tissue to add volume in the targeted areas. Lines around the eyes and hollows or dark circles under the eye can be plumped up with fillers for a more youthful appearance.
In some cases, facial filler injections that are placed underneath the eyes can lead to additional swelling, and can make a festoon pocket appear more evident or larger. At times, the festoon pocket may persist for a longer period even after an unwanted facial filler product is dissolved with hyaluronidase.
Even as the hyaluronic acid is processed by your body, healthy collagen and elastin grow at a more significant rate. This means you will see initial improvement nearly immediately. They will improve over six to eight weeks.
You can resume most activities right away, but it is generally recommended that you avoid intense physical activity for the first 24-48 hours to minimize swelling and bruising. Be sure to discuss your specific recovery plan with your physician prior to scheduling your injections.
Drink plenty of water. “Proper placement of mid-face and lower face filler should not significantly affect the smile,” he shares. With that said, “if an overly firm filler is used or if the region is overfilled, an unnatural appearance can result as the lips push against stiff surrounding tissues,” he adds.
Under-eye filler, or any dermal (skin) filler, may seem like a drastic choice, but the truth is that it may be one of the few things that can actually change the appearance of your under-eye area for real, depending on what's causing your dark circles.
The best candidate is a patient who has hollowing or darkening under the eyes. They have good skin thickness and elasticity that will allow for a natural augmentation under the eye. Some bruising can be expected after this procedure along with some swelling.
The effects of the fillers will wear off after months or years, but the treated area is likely to return to its original state. The benefits of both Botox and fillers will be gone and you'll notice that those lines and volume loss will come back.
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, you can expect some bruising, since the under-eye area has thinner skin with lots of blood vessels. Swelling is common as well. There are other possible side effects: If the fillers aren't injected correctly, the area can end up looking more swollen and discolored.
Common side effects include bruising and swelling, and nodules and bumps under the eye can occur. “Blindness is a rare side effect if the filler enters a blood vessel of the eye and occludes it,” she says, hence the importance of seeing a well-trained injector.
If you have puffiness
“In some patients, they have depleted fat pads, and they require more volume from filler to fill the crevice,” explains Dr Ewoma. “However, a lot of people have fat pads that are bulging, and are too big and baggy. When that is the case, filler is absolutely going to make it worse.”
