Mayonnaise as a
Mayonnaise kills lice by way of suffocation. The bugs need to breathe, and some oils are thick enough to coat their airways and suffocate them if left on long enough. This can be an effective treatment method, but it is cumbersome, as the mayo dries quickly, and it is challenging to get a lice comb through it.
Ideally, mayo is applied on dry hair so it can sit on your scalp and suffocate the lice better. Does mayonnaise or coconut oil kill lice? Both mayonnaise and coconut oil may act as suffocating agents and help eliminate head lice.
Natural head lice treatments
Some concentrations and ingredients may be harmful for some people. Some people also use things such as petroleum jelly, margarine, peanut butter, hair gel, mayonnaise, or cooking oils (e.g. olive, corn, canola). These do not kill lice.
It is important to completely cover the hair and scalp. After 3 hours, the mayonnaise can first be removed with paper towels, then combs. The nits should be removed with a lice comb. The mayo can be shampooed out with a detergent type shampoo like Prell.
Washing, soaking, or drying items at a temperature greater than 130°F can kill both head lice and nits.
Can I Leave Mayonnaise in My Hair Overnight? Absolutely! In fact, the longer you leave the mayo mask in your hair, the more effective the results may be. Before you hit the pillow, place a shower cap over your hair or wrap it in a soft terry towel.
Lice and nits can't survive the high heat. It's true that lice and nits can't survive temperatures above 113°F (45°C). This makes them susceptible to any heat source, such as a hairdryer or the plates of a hair straightener.
Can vinegar kill lice eggs? Vinegar is one of the classic home remedies for lice. However, if you are trying to find out how to get rid of nits using vinegar, you should know that using vinegar to kill nits or lice eggs is totally ineffective. Vinegar has no negative effect on the lice eggs.

Sometimes it will be easier to remove the nits if you wet the hair with white vinegar while you are combing the nits out. Vinegar helps loosen the "glue" that holds the nits to the hair. Separate and comb small sections of hair at a time.
Adult head lice can survive for 2 days and nits for around 1 week on a hairbrush. Soaking combs or hairbrushes in hot water of at least 130°F (54.4°C) for 5–10 minutes will kill any lice and nits.
Introduce natural predators (Ladybugs)
Ladybugs can eat 100 lice a day! Plant lice, anyway, but I'm sure it's the same with head lice. COVER YOUR CHILD IN LADYBUGS. You can purchase them at any of those “Brew 'n Grow” type stores where people grow weed by equipment and pretend to grow tomatoes with it.
Spinosad (Natroba).
Spinosad is approved for adults and children age 6 months and older. It can be applied to dry hair and rinsed with warm water after 10 minutes. It kills lice and nits and usually doesn't need repeated treatment.
Left untreated, head lice can lead to secondary infections, which can be serious. Bacterial infections, such as impetigo, can occur when scratched bites become infected; this can have serious consequences if not treated properly.
Avoid head-to-head (hair-to-hair) contact during play and other activities at home, school, and elsewhere (sports activities, playground, slumber parties, camp). Do not share clothing such as hats, scarves, coats, sports uniforms, hair ribbons, or barrettes. Do not share combs, brushes, or towels.
Apply mayonnaise to freshly cleansed, damp hair the way you would a conditioner. Focus on the ends as they are the oldest part of your hair, and avoid your roots especially if you have fine or thin hair. Put on a shower cap (a plastic bag works just as well”> or a heated thermal cap.
Using a blender, blend ½ cup of mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons of honey and 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar until you get a smooth mixture. Then apply this paste all over your hair and scalp and leave your hair covered for 45 minutes and then wash the mask out with some mild shampoo.
Can head lice live on pillows or sheets? Head lice cannot live for long on pillows or sheets. It is possible for a live louse that has come off a person's head to crawl onto another human host who also puts their head on the same pillows or sheets.
Dimeticone 4% liquid gel found to kill all lice and eggs with a single 15 minute application.
Ivermectin (Sklice).
This lotion kills most head lice, even just-hatched lice, with just one use. You don't need to comb out lice eggs (nits). Children ages 6 months and older can use this product.
