To get wet dog smell out of towels, do a two-stage wash: first, wash in hot water with 1 cup of white vinegar (no detergent), then immediately run a second hot wash with 1/2 cup of baking soda (no detergent) to deodorize, and dry thoroughly to kill odor-causing bacteria. This process breaks down the bacterial buildup causing the smell, and ensuring towels dry completely after each use prevents it from returning.
The Vinegar Method
That smell is the bacteria that builds up from the towels. The hot water alone is not enough to neutralize the odors caused by the bacteria. Try adding a cup of baking soda to your wash. In the future, towels should be washed about 2x per week (or you should switch towels every 3-4 days) to avoid bacteria growth.
7: USE BAKING SODA
Baking soda is another natural odor eliminator that can be added to your wash cycle. Simply add a little bit of baking soda along with your detergent to help neutralize pet smells.
This two-cycle washing method is the most effective way to strip mildew odor from towels completely. The key is using vinegar and baking soda in separate wash cycles—never together in the same load.
Baking soda is a natural odor-absorber. Sprinkle the powder over carpets, rugs and furniture, let it sit overnight and vacuum it up the next day. Likewise, apple cider vinegar can be used with laundry detergent in your washing machine to remove smells from blankets, cushion covers, curtains and other linens.
This often happens when there is a buildup of detergent in the clothes, meaning too much has been used over the course of time. Here's what I do when my clothes and cloth diapers get a "wet dog" smell: run an extra rinse after washing and smell them again. Still stinky? Run another rinse.
You can generally use baking soda in a load of laundry. Baking soda, or sodium bicarbonate, is a mild alkaline compound that works well in freshening and brightening clothing. It's safe to use in most washing machines and can have deodorizing capabilities for both your washer and laundry.
To help get odor out of towels, it's best to wash them separately and using hot water. Towels are thick and have many fibers to absorb water, dirt and residue in their everyday use. Hot water penetrates the fibers best and helps your detergent do its job.
Your Dish Drainer Has Stagnant Water
Water can get trapped down there, and stagnant water is basically the perfect home for mold and bacteria. If that's happening, it could be why your clean dishes are smelling like wet dog. To fix this, clean your dish drainer regularly, and make sure it dries completely between uses.
Towels are prone to bacterial growth for several reasons.
First, they're used in bathrooms, which are naturally rife with moisture, and bacteria grow in wet places. Second, they're very absorbent, and they can stay damp for quite a while after use – particularly in those humid bathrooms.
If the soiled item can be put into the washing machine, use an enzymatic cleaner with laundry detergent to effectively get rid of urine stains and smells. A pet urine remover like Nature's Miracle Laundry Boost In-Wash Stain & Odor Remover is a good option.
Mix laundry detergent, white vinegar, and water into a spray bottle and treat your upholstery (e.g. curtains, carpets, mattresses). Open your windows and leave for a few hours to dry. Use a brush dipped in bleach and warm water to clean your windowsills and remove any mildew or mould.
Solution: Wash your washing machine!
Pour two cups of vinegar in your detergent drawer. Run your washer empty through the hot water cycle on the longest setting. When it's over, use a sponge to wipe down the drum. Run the hot water cycle once more to make vinegar traces disappear.
Nonenal® (also known as 2-Nonenal) is a naturally occurring compound responsible for the distinct odor associated with aging. It typically appears after age 40, becoming more noticeable in both men and women.

If your dog has sebum oil on their coat, completely drying them off as soon as possible with a blow dryer after they get wet will reduce the smell emitted from this doggy dermal combination. Dogs with parasites, bacterial skin infections, or yeast infections can be particularly funky smelling when wet.
A diluted vinegar mixture is also effective for spraying onto the dog's beds, pillows, favorite couch cushion and/or your car seats to neutralize any scents.
Limited Effectiveness for Serious Clogs
The chemical reaction between baking soda and vinegar can break up some minor debris, but it won't dislodge or dissolve the heavier blockages caused by grease, hair, soap scum, or mineral buildup.
But eight places you should never use vinegar include:
