Flightradar24 relies on a network of receivers around the world that pick up these signals and display them on the map. Also, all planes do not have transponders that can be detected by Flightradar24. For example, some military planes, private jets, or older aircraft may not have ADS-B transponders.
If an aircraft you are looking for is not visible on Flightradar24 it either does not have a compatible transponder or it's out of Flightradar24 coverage.
The military resisted adding ADS-B to their aircraft because of the cost. However, some aircraft are now equipped and are showing up on sites like Flightradar24.
How does Flightradar24 work? Flightradar24 boasts the largest ADS-B network in the world with over 30,000 connected receivers. Its radars receive flight information from aircraft with ADS-B transponders and send this information to servers to allow tracking.
Aircraft located using satellite data are coloured blue on the map, and yellow if located by terrestrial receivers.

The most well know of these is the code 7700. This is used to indicate an emergency of any kind. A pilot will enter this when in an emergency situation - either instructed by ATC after declaring an emergency or without communication if there is no time.
