Whether circumcised men feel more or less sensation is a complex and debated topic, with high-quality studies generally finding no significant adverse effects on sexual function, sensation, or satisfaction, and some suggesting potential improvements or minimal changes, while lower-quality studies sometimes report reduced sensitivity or pleasure, often linked to the loss of the foreskin's fine nerve endings. Most men experience little to no change in feeling, though a small percentage report either increased or decreased sensitivity.
For the glans penis, circumcised men reported decreased sexual pleasure and lower orgasm intensity. They also stated more effort was required to achieve orgasm, and a higher percentage of them experienced unusual sensations (burning, prickling, itching, or tingling and numbness of the glans penis).
Research, theory, and popular belief all suggest that penile sensation is greater in the uncircumcised as compared with the circumcised man.
Studies including female partners found no significant differences in sexual satisfaction with circumcised vs. uncircumcised men. Some partners reported improvements in their sexual experiences after their partner's circumcision.
Circumcised men & Sensitivity
The foreskin protects the glans (head of the penis) from unwanted friction against undergarments and fabrics. Circumcision cuts the foreskin and without it, the glans can receive excessive rubbing causing discomfort or pain.
While the physical aspects of circumcision do not cause erectile dysfunction, the psychological impact of undergoing a surgical procedure can affect sexual function. Anxiety about the surgery, fear of pain, or concerns about changes in sexual performance can contribute to psychological ED.
In the overwhelming majority of studies, women expressed a preference for the circumcised penis. The main reasons given for this preference were better appearance, better hygiene, reduced risk of infection, and enhanced sexual activity, including vaginal intercourse, manual stimulation, and fellatio.
How does Circumcision make a difference to a woman? More pleasure- About 95% of men claim that their female partners were more satisfied after they got circumcised. There are also several pieces of research that state their intimate life has been way better after the procedure.
“Will circumcision affect sex drive ? NO. ” Circumcision has always been erotically misinterpreted. It is a common misconception that the foreskin is the only male erogenous tissue or erogenous zone that contributes to a man's sex drive.
An uncircumcised penis retains the foreskin, which covers the head of a nonerect penis. When the penis is erect, the foreskin pulls back to reveal the glans. A circumcised penis has no foreskin, which exposes the glans when the penis is both erect and nonerect.
Eventually, the foreskin should be retracted far enough during urination to see the meatus (the hole where the urine comes from). This prevents urine from building up beneath the foreskin and possibly causing an infection. As long as the foreskin doesn't easily retract, only the outside needs to be cleaned.
YouGov's latest research shows that 62% of adult American men report being circumcised, and of those men 86% say that they are happy to have been circumcised. 10% do, however, say that they wish that they had NOT been circumcised.
The results showed that, during the one-year follow-up, men after circumcision experienced higher IELT and better scores of control over ejaculation, satisfaction with sexual intercourse, and severity of PE than men before circumcision (P < 0.001 for all).
Circumcision can indirectly contribute to sexual dysfunction in women. - The alteration in sexual dynamics and mechanics can lead to decreased arousal and lubrication, increasing the risk of conditions such as vaginismus (involuntary tightening of the vaginal muscles) and dyspareunia (painful intercourse).
Circumcision is a simple and painless surgical procedure typically performed to address issues like phimosis, paraphimosis, or an overly long foreskin. The procedure has minimal impact on penile size.
In addition to HIV, male circumcision has been shown to reduce the risk of other heterosexually acquired sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Two trials demonstrated that male circumcision reduces the risk of acquiring genital herpes by 28% to 34%, and the risk of developing genital ulceration by 47%.
Improved self-esteem among circumcised men
Some circumcised men feel more confident about their bodies after circumcision. They may feel cleaner, and they may also enjoy sex more because they no longer have to deal with the inconvenience of a foreskin.
Adult Circumcision Pros
Reduces the risk of HIV transmission. The risk of thrush is reduced in the man and so the risk of recurrent thrush in their female partners. There is up to a 5-times reduction in risk of cervical cancer in a female partner of a circumcised man.
Results A total of 406 men were surveyed, and 332 were circumcised. No significant difference between circumcised and uncircumcised men pertaining to regret, desire to change their status, and sexual satisfaction was identified.
Regarding their female partner's satisfaction, 46.9% reported at 6-month follow-up that their partner was “very pleased” or “somewhat pleased” by their circumcision; 31.3% were neutral and only 0.7% report that their partner was “somewhat” or “very displeased” (Krieger et al., 2008).
What are the health effects of circumcision? Circumcised males are less likely than non-circumcised males to have urinary tract infections, phimosis, paraphimosis and balanitis, or to develop penis cancer. However, many uncircumcised males never experience these problems.
Credible research shows that most women prefer the appearance of the circumcised penis. They also prefer it for sexual activity. Hygiene is one reason; increased contact of the penis with the vaginal wall, and thus greater stimulation, are others.
This is a fairly rare problem. In particular, this may occur when too much skin is removed when a 'tight' circumcision is performed. Occasionally, the curvature may be severe enough that it causes urinary problems with the urine stream going sideways.
Among our patients, when asked about pain during circumcision performed under local anesthesia on a scale 1-10 with 1 being no pain, and 10 being the worst pain of your life, more than 90% of patients rate pain as 2-3. Most patients do not take prescribed pain medications or any other pain medications.
