Those who followed the light side of the Force and had the appropriate training could achieve a form of immortality by retaining their consciousness after their physical deaths. Qui-Gon Jinn rediscovered this ability and, in turn, taught Yoda and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi how to attain it.
While the Shaman of the Whills was not there to carry on his teachings, Qui-Gon was able to pass on his knowledge of immortality to Master Yoda. He instructed Yoda to meet with the five Force Priestesses: Serenity, Joy, Anger, Confusion, and Sadness.
He studied the living Force and learned from the Force Priestesses how to retain consciousness after death; he also learned physical manifestation was possible but didn't achieve it because his training was incomplete. By using the living and cosmic Force in tandem, he was able to unlock the secrets of eternal life.
Not just Obi-Wan Kenobi, but Master Yoda and Luke Skywalker make the list of Force Ghosts. And they can engage with the living world. So, it seems like these force users do become immortal.
Yoda's species naturally live to an older age. His ability to engage in Force-healing also augmented his already-long lifespan, allowing him to live until age 900. Yoda died of old age in Return of the Jedi, but he also retained his powers when he became a Force ghost.
Yoda confronted Sidious in the heart of the Senate chambers. This erupted into an intense duel between these masters of the Force, a fight that Yoda ultimately lost and was forced to flee. With the Galactic Empire triumphant, Yoda and Obi-Wan were the last of the Jedi.
The second time Yoda mentions his long life is in Return of the Jedi, when he tells Luke, “When you reach 900 years old, you will not look as good as you will.” If we take Yoda at his word, that means the Jedi Master died at the ripe old age of 900.
