Unless your doctor or pharmacist gives you different instructions, it's best to take prednisolone as a single dose once a day, with breakfast. For example, if your dose is 40mg daily, your doctor may tell you to take 8 tablets (8 x 5mg) all at the same time.
Do not stop or taper prednisone without speaking to your doctor first.
2 Prednisone may be given for only a short time, such as over a few days to much longer periods. Some people who take prednisone for chronic conditions have trouble stopping the drug because the symptoms return every time the dose is lowered.
Do not cut back or stop the medicine without your doctor's approval. After you stop taking steroids, your body may be slow in making the extra steroids that you need. Your doctor may want to do a simple blood test to see how your body is doing. If needed, they will have you continue or restart your steroid medicine.

Coming off treatment
If you've been taking steroid tablets for more than a few days, you usually need to reduce your dose gradually. Stopping suddenly can cause your adrenal gland, which makes important hormones for the body, to stop working. This is known as adrenal insufficiency.
If you use this medicine for a long time, do not suddenly stop using it without checking first with your doctor. You may need to slowly decrease your dose before stopping it completely.

For steroid treatments lasting longer than a few days, it is VERY important not to miss a dose, and to only stop treatment under medical supervision. This is because after some days or weeks of taking steroids your body stops making enough of its own steroids to maintain important functions (such as blood pressure).
These symptoms generally last one to two weeks as you are tapering. Make sure to avoid other medications unless your doctor says it's okay. The psychological symptoms can stick around longer than the physical ones. Frequently, the psychological withdrawals can last two to eight weeks.
