In Islam, a girl is considered a woman (reaches bulugh, or puberty/maturity) when she experiences signs of physical maturity like menstruation, pubic hair growth, or seminal discharge, or if these don't occur, by reaching a certain age, often cited as 15 years, marking her as fully accountable for religious duties, though social maturity and readiness for marriage can vary, say. The specific age for legal adulthood for things like marriage contracts can differ by school of thought (e.g., 15, 18) and societal context, with mental maturity and sound judgment also important.
Different countries have different laws, but age 18 is frequently considered the age of majority (the age at which a person is legally considered an adult). Menarche, the onset of menstruation, occurs on average at age 12–13.
Generally, for boys the puberty age is 15 years whereas for girls it is 9 years (see Ahadith in Appendix I).
Age at marriage and consummation
Classical Islamic sources state that Aisha was six at the time of her marriage with Muhammad and nine at the time of its consummation (then 50 or 53). In a hadith recorded in Sahih al-Bukhari, Aisha recalls being married at the age of six.
Islamic law did not set up a particular age for the marriage contract. The age of marital act is one of the things which are determined according to the circumstances of time and place, and to the capacity of both parties in the contract for marriage and establishing a family.
However, Islamic texts do not prescribe a specific age for marriage. Instead, they emphasize the importance of maturity and readiness for marriage responsibilities. The Quran mentions the concept of “baligh” (puberty) as a marker of maturity.
It is perfectly acceptable for young Muslims to start dating around the age of puberty if they feel they are ready for all of the rules and potential responsibilities that come along with it. Spend some time in prayer and with the Holy Quran to determine whether you are ready to begin searching for a partner.
In certain texts of the hadith, Aisha was betrothed at 6 years old and married at 9. Today, some Muslim fundamentalists defend and deploy the Aisha marital hadith to justify child marriage in our own time.
Muhammad's first marriage was to Khadija bint Khuwaylid in 595, when he was 25 and she was either 28 or 41. She was his only wife until her death in 619 (the Year of Sorrow) ended their 24-year-long marriage.
Tricked by his father-in-law into marrying his true love's sister, Jacob waited 14 years before he could be with Rachel.
The "777 Rule in Islam" primarily refers to a parenting philosophy based on dividing a child's upbringing into three seven-year stages: 0-7 years (play, love, bonding); 7-14 years (teaching, discipline, character building); and 14-21 years (mentorship, guidance, treating them as friends/companions). This framework, rooted in prophetic guidance, emphasizes intentional connection and age-appropriate engagement to raise balanced, resilient Muslim children, contrasting with a simpler "7-minute rule" for daily connection.
Muslim women should not pray, enter the mosque, or touch the Mus-haf (copy of the Quran) during the menstrual period. When there is no blood at all or a white discharge is seen, women should perform Ghusl then pray and fast if they have some days to make up for.
What is regarded as Mustahab is to remove that hair with whatever means is possible. So as soon as they start growing it, it can be recommended to them.
Girls usually begin puberty between the ages of 8 and 13 years old. The earliest sign of puberty in most girls is the development of breast "buds," nickel-sized bumps under the nipple. It is not unusual for breast growth to start on one side before the other.
The 20-40 age group is broadly called Young Adults, often encompassing Millennials (born ~1981-1996) and younger Gen X, but specific terms include 20-somethings (vicenarians) and 30-somethings (tricenarians), with the 40s sometimes considered the start of Middle Adulthood (quadragenarians), depending on the context (social, developmental, or demographic).
Biologically, a female can conceive any time from when she starts menstruating till the time her menstruation cycle stops; the average starting age of menstruation is 12 and 45 is the average ending age of menstruation cycles. However, this doesn't mean that 12 to 18 is a good age to get pregnant.
All credible historical data and early Islamic sources indicate that Aisha (RA) was around 17 or 18 years old when she married the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ - not 9 as commonly misunderstood. This conclusion is drawn from: Calculated timelines of early Islamic events. Age gaps with her sister Asma (RA)
In hadith, these four women of paradise were mentioned by the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him), who said: “The best of women among the people of Paradise are Khadijah bint Khuwaylid, Fatima bint Muhammad, Maryam bint 'Imran, and 'Asiyah bint Muzahim, the wife of Pharaoh.”
Historical Narrations Mention a Much Higher Number
But Al-Hafidh ibn Hajar narrated in his story of Sulayman (peace be upon him) in Al-Bidayah wanl-Nihayah, vol. 2, from many of the Salaf, that the number of Sulayman's wives was one thousand.
SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to kiss his wife Aisha (RA) while both of them were fasting. Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu'minin: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to kiss me when he was fasting and when I was fasting.
The age difference between Aisha and her sister Asma was 10 years [26]. According to this, Aisha's year of birth was 605 (595+10=605) and her age at the time of the Hijra was 17 (27–10=17).
Red flags in a guy often point to controlling, disrespectful, or emotionally immature behavior, including excessive jealousy, love bombing, poor communication (like the silent treatment or name-calling), lack of accountability, disrespect towards service staff, and a pattern of bad-mouthing exes, indicating potential issues with empathy, boundaries, and personal responsibility that signal unhealthy relationship dynamics.
The 777 dating rule is a relationship strategy for intentional connection, suggesting couples schedule a date every 7 days, an overnight getaway every 7 weeks, and a longer vacation every 7 months to keep the spark alive, build memories, and prevent disconnection from daily life. It's about consistent, quality time, not necessarily grand gestures, and focuses on undivided attention to strengthen intimacy and partnership over time.
The 3-3-3 dating rule is a guideline for evaluating a potential relationship at three checkpoints: 3 dates, 3 weeks, and 3 months, to gauge attraction, compatibility, and long-term potential, helping to avoid rushing or getting stuck in situationships. After 3 dates, assess mutual attraction and chemistry; after 3 weeks, check for consistent effort and communication; and by 3 months, decide if it's heading towards commitment or time to part ways amicably, focusing on clarity over attachment.
