Chow Chow. We'll start with the most famous lion-dog of all: the Chow Chow. An ancient breed from China, it's easy to see why this fluffy fellow tops the list of dogs that look like lions. Chows thick fur and small, rounded ears give them a distinctly leonine appearance.
The Kai Ken (甲斐犬, also called the Tora Inu or Tiger Dog) is a breed of dog from Japan, where it is a national monument. It is a rare dog even in its native land and is one of the six native Japanese dog breeds protected by the Nihon Ken Hozonkai.
The liger is a hybrid offspring of a male lion (Panthera leo) and a tigress, or female tiger (Panthera tigris). The liger has parents in the same genus but of different species. The liger is distinct from the similar hybrid called the tigon, and is the largest of all known extant felines.

The Chow Chow is a breed of dog which is originally from northern China. In China, it is referred to as Songshi Quan which means puffy-lion dog. These are commonly kept as pets. They become fiercely protective of their owner and property.

Tibetan Mastiff
Tibetan mastiffs are ancient domesticated dogs. They are gigantic and powerful mountain dogs whose traditional purpose was to protect livestock and help with herding. Orange-colored ones look like lions, but black and dark brown ones look very much like bears, especially when they are young.

There are no other natural canines that meet those criteria as well as the Big Cats. The timber wolf is the largest wolf, yet its stature pales compared to that of lions and tigers. The largest species of wolves can grow up to 137 pounds and 7 feet long, while tigers can reach 650 pounds and 12.5 feet in length.
