Lancelot's first death was a sacrifice after he made a promise to Gwen to protect Arthur. As soon as everyone learned of his sacrifice, he was deemed the bravest and most noble night of all. Lancelot's second death was just as tragic as his previous sacrifice was erased in the minds of Camelot.
For example, Lancelot risked his life to escort Merlin back to Camelot when the warlock was injured by the Dorocha, and decided to sacrifice himself in Arthur's place on the Isle of the Blessed in part so that Merlin wouldn't have to (The Darkest Hour).
Merlin is tasked with giving Lancelot a proper burial and takes his body to the shore of Nemhain. Using his magic, he is able to briefly revive his friend, and it seems that it is the real Lancelot who wakes... "Merlin," he gasps.
Unlike so many other knights, Lancelot was not killed in battle. After being dismissed from Arthur's court, Lancelot became a monk and devoted himself to a quiet religious life to atone for his affair with Guinevere. Guinevere, in turn, became a nun.
In the medieval legends about King Arthur of Britain and his knights, Lancelot is the greatest knight of all. In time, however, Lancelot's love for Guinevere, the king's wife, leads him to betray his king and sets in motion the fatal events that end Arthur's rule.
Lancelot dedicates his deeds to his lady Guinevere, acting in her name as her knight. At one point, he goes mad when he is led to believe that Guinevere doubts his love until he is found and healed by the Lady of the Lake.
She was devoted to Lancelot (her lover) and her betrayal of her husband created the end of King Arthur's roundtable and the downfall of Camelot. Thomas Malory described Guinevere as 'a true lover' and believed she had a 'good end. '
Following the death of Arthur, Guinevere entered a convent, where she spent the rest of her life praying and helping the poor. Filled with remorse for the trouble she and her lover had caused, she vowed never to see Lancelot again. When Guinevere died, she was buried beside King Arthur.
Guinevere meets Lancelot one last time, refusing to kiss him, then returns to the convent. She spends the remainder of her life as an abbess in joyless sorrow contrasting with her earlier merry nature. Following her death, Lancelot buries her next to Arthur's (real or symbolic) grave.
Lancelot immediately bowed to the king and begged forgiveness. Arthur laughed, and said he'd heard that Lancelot was on his way to Camelot, and came to meet him to test his skills. Arthur said Lancelot had nothing to be sorry for, and knighted him on the spot.
Merlin's purpose in life is to support and protect Arthur because he believes that Arthur will one day be the greatest of all kings and will restore peace to the region.
Shortly thereafter in the episode, "Lancelot and Guinevere", Arthur and Merlin raced to rescue Gwen after she was kidnapped by a warlord, Hengist. He was devastated to see then that Gwen had discovered that she had feelings for Lancelot, who had also tried to rescue her at this time.
Merlin tries to warn him against the marriage because Guinevere is in love with Sir Lancelot, one of Arthur's knights. When Arthur discovers that his wife and Sir Lancelot are having an affair, Sir Lancelot flees for France and Arthur pursues him.
Merlin sets himself the task of saving Arthur by getting to the Isle of Avalon in time. He fails. Largely because he didn't summon the dragon until too late because the dragon was dying. Although, clearly, not dying as much as his closest friend, whom he was trying to save.
By having his affair with Guinevere, Lancelot creates a break in the table because of their stations: his as Arthur's vassal and hers as Arthur's queen and wife. In order to right the wrongs, Arthur knows that he must punish his wife upon finding out about the secret affair.
Weakened by the losses incurred during the quest for the grail, and then by the scandal of Lancelot and Guinevere, Arthur's kingdom began to break apart. War broke out after Lancelot staged an armed rescue of Guinevere, condemned to death for her treasonous love for the great knight.
Merlin spends a part of his life as a madman in the woods and marries a woman named Guendoloena (a character inspired by the male Gwenddoleu ap Ceidio). He eventually retires to observing stars from his house with seventy windows in the remote woods of Rhydderch.
In Chapter 18:1, Arthur first sees Guinevere and falls instantly in love with her. In 18:3, he tells Merlin he will have only Guinevere as his wife. Merlin warns him that she will not be faithful but will fall in love with a knight called Lancelot, and he with her, and they will betray him.
Arthur died at the hands of Mordred by the shores of Avalon, but, as the Once and Future King, he is destined to one day rise again.
Mordred is first mentioned in the Annales Cambriae, in which it simply states for the year 537, "The battle of Camlann, in which Arthur and Medraut fell." Who Medraut was, and whether he ... King Arthur and Guinevere did not have a child in most classic versions of the King Arthur legend.
The child most frequently associated with King Arthur is his wicked son–nephew, Mordred, by his half sister, Morgause. Usually, the affair is arranged by his half sister Morgan le Fay without Arthur's knowledge.
Lancelot saved Guinevere from her death. One of Arthur's knights, his son Mordred, wanted to become king and encouraged King Arthur to battle Lancelot. Mordred convinced everyone that King Arthur died in battle and Mordred overtook the throne.
Morgan also conspires against Arthur's queen, Guinevere, sometimes because they are rivals for the love of Arthur's most important knight, Sir Lancelot. In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight she sends the Green Knight into Arthur's court in the hopes that Queen Guinevere will be frightened to death.
However, they soon found themselves running in the same circles the closer they got to Merlin. Eventually, Arthur and Gwen fell in love as the prince began to trust and rely on her counsel. But like every other couple, they had their ups-and-downs.
Lancelot is a noble and honorable man, whose reputation is sullied only by his sinful relationship with Guinevere. He often feels acute guilt and shame about his adultery and his infidelity to Arthur, and he frequently makes strong but unsuccessful efforts to untangle himself from the influence of evil.
