Blood is considered powerful because it's the carrier of life, essential for physical health, transporting oxygen, nutrients, and removing waste, while in many spiritual traditions, blood symbolizes life's essence and is seen as a potent force for sacrifice, atonement, cleansing, and transformation, particularly the blood of Jesus in Christianity for forgiveness and new life.
The blood symbolizes cleansing and purification—the settling of a matter. God is love. And the greatest expression of His love toward us is the blood of Jesus. That love covers every need man has had or ever will have, and every time we apply the blood, we experience an outpouring of this love.
Joshua 24:14–15 Reminds Us to Serve God
And then for us to pray that God would save us from idols in our country. We must decide if we will serve God or ourselves. Let's do that. God, we start this prayer by saying you alone are God.
In short, blood brings life to every cell in our body and cleanses it. We may have been taught to think of blood in biological terms but blood is of great spiritual significance to God. The Bible tells us that blood also has life-giving and purification properties spiritually.
God is so obsessed with blood because He's so obsessed with life. More than anything else in the body, blood is essential to life. It's what carries the fuel and oxygen to the billions of cells in our bodies. Blood supplies the brain and the heart with the necessary nourishment to function.
But to all who are saved by the blood—and by the blood is the only way salvation can come—the blood is the power of God unto salvation, unto redemption, unto deliverance. But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God (I Corinthians 1:24).
With His blood, Jesus purchased our authority and deliverance. The blood breaks addictions, breaks spiritual bondages, and subdues the work of the enemy. When we testify of the Word and of the blood, we exercise, by faith, our authority over and deliverance from demonic influence.
For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it for you on the altar to make atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that makes atonement by the life. Therefore I have said to the people of Israel, No person among you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger who sojourns among you eat blood.”
One of the key functions of blood is transport. Blood vessels are like networks of roads where deliveries and waste removal take place. Oxygen, nutrients and hormones are delivered around the body in the blood and carbon dioxide and other waste products are removed.
It is thought possible that the ancient Egyptians used red wine to symbolize blood in religious offerings, explaining why Shezmu is associated with both blood and wine. Shezmu is an ancient Egyptian deity associated with the process of embalming, as well as with violence and protection.
The holy things and the pearls represent the things of God, perhaps the gospel itself. The dogs and pigs represent hostile, unworthy people. And so the statement translates into something like this: Do not preach the things of God to hostile, unworthy people.
Application in Modern Context
In our fast-paced and often chaotic world, Joshua 24:14-15 invites us to pause and reflect on our own spiritual journey. It prompts us to evaluate our priorities and recommit ourselves to serving God with sincerity and passion.
God repeats to Joshua, “be strong and courageous”, so that Joshua wouldn't try to live out God's calling in his own strength. We need repetition too.
Hebrews 13:12 tells us that “Jesus also suffered…in order to sanctify the people through His own blood.” It makes sense that God wants us to be in a new relationship with the sin that previously condemned us. That is why He gives us the power, through the blood of His Son, to be cleansed from our sinful behaviors.
Activating the Blood
Revelation 12:11 says, “They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony.” The power in the blood is activated in our lives when we speak the Word of God. To walk in victory, our words must agree with what the blood says.
Blood carries carbon dioxide and other waste materials to the lungs, kidneys, and digestive system to be removed from the body. Blood also fights infections, and carries hormones around the body. Blood is made up of blood cells and plasma.
Red blood cells rely on glucose for energy and convert glucose to lactate. The brain uses glucose and ketone bodies for energy. Adipose tissue uses fatty acids and glucose for energy.
Red blood cells are formed in the red bone marrow of bones. Stem cells in the red bone marrow are called hemocytoblasts. They give rise to all of the formed elements in blood. If a stem cell commits to becoming a cell called a proerythroblast, it will develop into a new red blood cell.
There are very real vampiric demonic spirits that when they are in operation of within someone they require of that person to drink of to consume of the blood in order to maintain their stronghold and maintain their power.
Reading Leviticus 17 in it's entirety, the topic comes up as part of a conversation on sacrifice. The prohibition against eating blood is specifically stated (verse 11) to be because the life of the animal is in the blood and that life was given by God for the purpose of atonement.
The blood is proof of our distinction being separated from the world, thus belonging to God. Being a God of mercy and promise, the blood is God's pledge of mercy to spare us. The blood is our protection, shielding us from judgment.
Throughout the Bible, blood represents life (for instance, Genesis 9:4), and the spilling or shedding of blood, in turn, depicts death (Leviticus 17:11, 14; Deuteronomy 12:23).
So being “redeemed by the blood of the lamb” means that because of Jesus' life, a person is reclaimed by God into freedom and a kind of life that's beyond the power of death.
