Shiva isn't inherently dark but embodies powerful, transformative forces, often depicted as dark or blue due to associations with cremation ash, the vastness of the cosmos (like the night sky or ocean), his fierce aspects (Rudra, Bhairava), the poison he drank (Neelkanth), or as Mahakala (Great Time/Death), representing dissolution, while his white form symbolizes purity and transcendence, reflecting a duality of asceticism and cosmic power.
Lord Shiva's physical appearance, especially in his ascetic form, aligns with the color white. He is often portrayed with ash smeared on his body, signifying the transcendence of material existence. The ashes are white, representing the impermanence of life and the detachment from earthly pleasures.
Shiva is called the god of destruction, and destruction brings the end of things. It is seen as a negative act, so this can be seen as a dark aspect. Destruction in Hinduism is important as it paves the way to creation and transformation.
She is called Kali Mata ("the dark mother") and also kālī, which can be read here either as a proper name or as a description: "the dark (or black) one".

Any deviation from dharma is considered to be a serious sin that is capable of ruining the peace of the person affected. Adharma not just harms people but also disturbs the balance of the universe. The sin of Adharma is unforgivable and leads to accumulation of bad karma.

On Mahashivratri, offer Lord Shiva kheer, the traditional Indian dessert prepared from milk, rice, and nuts. Panchamrit which is concotion of milk, curd, ghee honey, and sugar is offered to him. You can also make pedas which are small sweet balls made from condensed milk, sugar, and cardamom.
