Since Dragon Ball GT was not based on the manga, no filler was required. As a result, four entire sagas (the Black Star Dragon Ball Saga, the Baby Saga, the Super 17 Saga, and the Shadow Dragon Saga) were completed in only 64 episodes.

Because Akira toriyama didn't make it. Unlike super he's writing super so that makes it canon. If it doesn't come from the creator himself then it's not canon. You can think of GT as fan fiction.
Summary. Goku uses energy from all around the universe and kills Omega Shenron with the Super Ultra Spirit Bomb. The rest of the Z Fighters come running to find Goku unconscious on the ground, when all of a sudden, the original Shenron appears without being summoned, something that has never happened before.
Beyond creating the title and logo of the series, providing designs for the main characters, and drawing a few promotional illustrations, original manga author Akira Toriyama had very little involvement with the series.
