Restaurants use palm oil primarily for its cost-effectiveness, high stability at high temperatures ( 230 ∘ C 2 3 0 ∘ C or 450 ∘ F 4 5 0 ∘ F ), neutral taste, and long shelf life. It is a versatile, semi-solid fat that creates crispier fried food and is often used as a cheaper alternative to other oils in high-volume cooking.
Palm oil, especially due to its high saturated fat content, can increase bad cholesterol levels in the body and lead to cardiovascular diseases. McDonald's leads in palm oil use but not in commitments
