Dogs communicate pleasure, happiness, excitement, and affiliation through their vocalizations. The most common sounds of pleasure are moans and sighs, although dogs also use whines and growls to communicate happiness. Low-pitched moans are very common in puppies and are signs of contentment.
Sighing to relax
After living and evolving among humans for millennia, dogs share many of our behaviors, including sighing when winding down. When the body hits the bed, a deep exhale is a natural response shared by both species and one that both indicates and promotes relaxation.
It's usually caused by airways being blocked in the throat. Stridor: high-pitched and loud breathing, usually the result of rigid tissues vibrating in the airway passage. Typically it's caused by a partial or complete blockage of the nasal passages or voice box, or sometimes even the collapse of the upper windpipe.
They need attention or wants something else from you
In a variation on your dog being in need of attention, sometimes your dog will sigh because they want something else from you, something you're currently not providing.
Your dog might sigh when he's not happy about something, like when you tell him playtime's over or he can't go out on a walk right now. A dog who's frustrated or disappointed when he sighs will seem more alert and may stare at you (probably because he wants you to play with him).
Dogs and Anger
While dogs can indeed get upset by a situation, they don't get mad at someone in the same way that you do. According to HealthyPsych, anger is what psychologists refer to as a secondary emotion, which is a human response to primary emotions like fear and sadness.

They're tired
