Roman Catholic Church Pope Pius XII taught that circumcision is only "[morally] permissible if, in accordance with therapeutic principles, it prevents a disease that cannot be countered in any other way."
As an Abrahamic faith, Islamic people practice circumcision as a confirmation of their relationship with God, and the practice is also known as 'tahera', meaning purification. With the global spread of Islam from the 7th century AD, male circumcision was widely adopted among previously non-circumcising peoples.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church states, “Except when performed for strictly therapeutic medical reasons, directly intended amputations, mutilations and sterilizations performed on innocent persons are against moral law” (N. 2297). Elective circumcision clearly violates that standard.
With the exception of the commemoration of the circumcision of Jesus in accordance with Jewish practice, circumcision has not been part of Catholic practice.
Catholic theology since the Second Vatican Council has increasingly emphasized that God's covenant with the Jewish people remains valid. It has never been revoked. This covenant includes infant male circumcision.

Circumcision Benefits
There is some evidence that circumcision has health benefits, including: Less risk of urinary tract infections. A reduced risk of some sexually transmitted diseases in men. Protection against penile cancer and a lower risk of cervical cancer in female sex partners.
Certainly, the practice of male circumcision has ancient origins. The Greek historian Herodotus recorded the practice in Egypt in 5th century BC, and in the Semitic tradition, male circumcision is linked to a covenant with God dating back to Abraham.
Circumcision is completed for many reasons. Most commonly, it's used as a prevention technique — it ensures correct and proper hygiene for males and prevents a myriad of conditions. We'll discuss these conditions a little bit further down in this article.
The Royal Australasian College says routine infant circumcision is not warranted in Australia or New Zealand; but it also recognises the procedure continues as a religious or cultural ritual.
Conclusion: The highest-quality studies suggest that medical male circumcision has no adverse effect on sexual function, sensitivity, sexual sensation, or satisfaction.
Circumcision is also standard in the United States and parts of Southeast Asia and Africa, but is rare in Europe, Latin America, and most of Asia. A personal preference in favor of circumcision is more common in Anglophone countries such as the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
We found that the vast majority of men expressed positive changes in sexual performance and ability to satisfy sexual partners after being circumcised and many men connected these feelings with increased feelings of masculinity.
Being cut or uncut doesn't have enough effect on your risk for most conditions to universally recommend the procedure. It doesn't affect your overall sexual health. The major difference is that if you're uncut, you'll need to wash regularly under the foreskin to reduce your risk for infection and other conditions.
Studies have shown a reduced risk of human papillomavirus, genital ulcers, herpes simplex virus type 2, syphilis, bacterial vaginosis, and T vaginalis in women whose partners are circumcised.
But also, uncircumcised penises are completely normal.
Since babies are born with their foreskins intact, uncircumcised penises are actually the biological default. That doesn't mean there's anything wrong with circumcised penises—just that there's nothing wrong with uncircumcised penises, either.
Conclusions. Adult male circumcision was not associated with sexual dysfunction. Circumcised men reported increased penile sensitivity and enhanced ease of reaching orgasm.
