The Handmaid who previously held the name Offred (June's predecessor) hanged herself because her secret, non-consensual relationship with Commander Fred Waterford was discovered by Serena Joy, the Commander's wife.

In the Handmaids' room, June tries to make conversation with the unusually silent Ofgeorge only to find she is unable to open her mouth because of multiple rings piercing her lips, holding them together.
She got pregnant after having sex with Fred the night before they drove to the border and got Fred arrested (S3E11). She finds out she's pregnant a couple of weeks after that in Season 4.
The actress in real life has Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. While this is of course true, in the book Serena is an older woman who walks with a cane. I thought they were just incorporating this into another character until I read about the actress having EDS.
Ofglen is a member of the resistance group "Mayday". She urges that her fellow Handmaid Offred spy on her Commander in order to gather information for the resistance. According to her successor, her activities were leaked to the regime. She hangs herself in her room when she sees a van of the Eyes coming to arrest her.
Description. Social class. Unbaby, or shredder, is the term used in the Republic of Gilead to describe infants that are suffering from birth defects or physical deformities. These die shortly after birth due to their defects. They are usually taken away to be disposed of.
The suicide bomber was Ofglen (the second), who had her tongue cut out for being the first to object to the stoning of Janine, and thus paved the way for June/Offred's epic, infamous act of “I'm sorry, Aunt Lydia” recalcitrance.
Carey Cox, who plays Rose Blaine, has Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. They incorporated her disability into her character and wrote it so Rose has congenital hip dysplasia. That's why she walks with a cane and is either sitting down or in a wheelchair in some episodes.
Nick continues to support June from afar in Gilead. He asks her about Nicole and finds updates for her about Hannah to bring her comfort. Nick gets married to someone in Gilead, Rose Blaine who knows about June and her situation.
Noah Waterford is a character in The Handmaid's Tale. He is the son of Serena Waterford and Fred Waterford.
Sarah and Helena are the only clones to be identical twin sisters. All the clones are genetically identical but Sarah and Helena were born on the same day, are fertile and immune to the LEDA sickness.

When someone comes knocking at the door, June hides under their bed, where she finds a copy of the Qur'an and a prayer rug, indicating that Omar had been secretly practicing Islam.
The Testaments, a spinoff of Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale, is coming out in 2026. Hulu recently shared the first look at the new series, starring Ann Dowd as Aunt Lydia, One Battle After Another breakout star Chase Infiniti as Agnes/Hannah, and Lucy Halliday as Daisy.
Blessed be the fruit: This is essentially 'hello' in Gilead speak, and it's usually met with the response “May the Lord open” (see below). Alongside being a greeting, it's also meant to encourage fertility, ie that a Handmaid will be 'blessed' with the 'fruit' of a child.

Eden has a potential chance to save her own life by “renouncing her sins”, and Nick begs her to do so. However, the young Econowife chooses to die a martyr's death via drowning along with her lover, but not before reciting 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 to herself and Isaac.
After Nick reveals Rose's pregnancy to June, Rose is seen gathering with other wives while holding her belly and discussing her pregnancy.
Moira resists the training, defying the Aunts and also mocking them behind their backs, whilst plotting to escape. Her first (actually second) escape attempt ends in failure and she is beaten for her actions: The Aunts tortured Moira by beating her feet with steel cables, the punishment for a first offense.
It is implied that some Wives are capable of bearing children, but most are older women and thus have difficulty conceiving (or their husbands are infertile), which is also hampered by widespread infertility. As a result, Wives have to 'share' their husbands with Handmaids, in order to get a child.
But it's the red dress that is one of the strongest symbols throughout The Handmaid's Tale. Worn by the handmaids it marks their fertility, the vibrancy of blood, but also symbolises the perceived sin in what they're doing, sleeping with the Commanders who are married men.
