While the Bible tells us God “rested” on the Sabbath day, it doesn't say that He rested because He was tired. (God does not “faint or grow weary”, as Isaiah 40:28, ESV tells us.) He rested to look over what He created and enjoy it.
God created rest for our benefit, to restore us. We can experience true rest when we spend time in God's presence, praying or reflecting on His Word. As we take time from our busy schedule, we can be still, silent, present, and allow Him to work in us. In the book of Psalms, we discover what resting in God truly means.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Jesus didn't promise the idea of rest.
God's rest is a state, or place, where God rules and manages his creation, free from the chaos and disorder brought about by sin and rebellion. All who will rest from their own work of bringing their own life under control can enter into God's rest. In Hebrews 4:1-11, the author of Hebrews discusses God's rest.
The headaches causing Him to leave (John 4:1-2), sent Him on a long, arduous journey to Galilee (John 4:3), and our Savior grew weary, which called for a pit stop in Samaria (John 4:5-6). And John says He “sat down at the well.” In other words, our Savior rested.
Jesus Tells His Disciples to Rest
And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat.
Jesus takes moments alone to rest in God's presence (Matthew 14:13). At other times, he uses the Jewish sabbath worship for reaching out to others with his message of salvation (Luke 4:16-21).

We learn that God's rest comes in two parts. First, we enter God's rest when we believe in Christ's finished work on the cross. “For we who have believed enter that rest …” We enter God's rest when we believe and are saved, but the final consummation of God's rest comes with Christ's return.

The phrase was first found on tombstones some time before the fifth century. It became ubiquitous on the tombs of Christians in the 18th century, and for High Church Anglicans, Methodists, as well as Roman Catholics in particular, it was a prayerful request that their soul should find peace in the afterlife.
Divine rest means a relationship with God in which you are trusting and relying on the finished work of Christ, and not on your own efforts or on yourself.
Here, Jesus promises rest of love, healing, security and above all, peace of God and peace with God. You can find rest for your soul through prayers/communing with God, through faith in His word/promises and through total trust in His faithfulness/love.

It is the will of God that we enter His rest. The way we do this is by walking in and finishing the work that has been prepared for us beforehand. When we stray from the path of righteousness that has been prepared for us, the wrath of God is aroused because He knows that the path we are on leads to destruction.
God gives us Sabbath--he gives us rest--as a gift to remind us that our standing in Christ is not based on our works. Days of rest are days where we can tell ourselves, “I'm not producing anything, yet God still loves me.” Rest is important for the believer because it aligns our souls to the Spirit of the Father.

When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
The Son of God offers us true rest—a rest that has to do with knowing God. His invitation is a spiritual one; to know Jesus and His ways, and to begin a personal walk with Jesus that will transform all our thoughts, deeds, and relationships.
In Matthew 11:28, Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” From this passage of Scripture, Jesus is telling us if we come to Him, He will give us rest. Since Jesus is God (John 1:1) and He does not lie (Hebrews 6:18), then God does really give rest to the weary.
But why did Jesus' resurrection take place three days after his death? He could have risen one day, two days, or even four days after his death and the resurrection would still be historically valid according to eyewitnesses.
