By circa 9 ABY, after the fall of the Empire, Gideon still possessed the Darksaber, and was the leader of an Imperial remnant on the planet of Nevarro. During his rescue of the Force-sensitive foundling Grogu from Gideon, the Mandalorian Din Djarin won the Darksaber from Gideon in combat.
The weapon can be used to unite Mandalorians across all tribes, clans, houses, and creeds. It's been wielded by many individuals over the course of Star Wars history. Currently, the Darksaber is unwittingly in the possession of The Mandalorian's Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal).
Tarre Vizsla
Tarre was the first Mandalorian ever inducted into the Jedi order. The weapon he left behind reflected the man who built it, an amalgamation of the two great cultures. Although little is known about Tarre, it is likely that he was the strongest wielder of the Darksaber.
After the Clone Wars, Maul added the Darksaber to a collection of artifacts he maintained on Dathomir, and it was then taken up by Sabine Wren after she was possessed by the ghost of one of the Nightsisters.
Maul became the possessor of the Darksaber, in accordance with Mandalorian tradition, after killing its owner, Pre Vizsla.

The very first owner of the Darksaber was the one who created it, and his name is Tarre Vizsla. Very little is known about Tarre within the Star Wars franchise; however, it is known that he lived during the Old Republic era and was the only Mandalorian to be accepted as a Jedi.
The darksaber does have a kyber crystal just like all other lightsabers do! The crystal is the heart of the saber, giving it not just its color but its energy as well. Kyber crystals are unique, and for the Jedi, the crystal chooses its owner.
It appears rarely in the Star Wars universe—so rarely, in fact, that the current canon recognizes only one carrier of a white lightsaber. Ahsoka Tano, the former Jedi Padawan who aided in the rebellion against the Galactic Empire, is acknowledged as the sole possessor of the white lightsaber.
Black is the rarest lightsaber color in the world of Star Wars. For a while, the only known black lightsaber was the Darksaber, forged a thousand years ago and owned by a Mandalorian Jedi. However, the High Republic era revealed that at least one more Jedi had a black lightsaber.
In Rebels, Bo-Katan is declared the new ruler of Mandalore. In The Mandalorian, after the Great Purge of Mandalore, she seeks to recover the Darksaber from Moff Gideon and retake her homeworld.
The Darksaber may be a fearsome weapon, but it cannot cut through beskar, which is the most resilient metal in the Star Wars universe and also Mandalorian-made. It is currently unknown if the Darksaber hilt is imbued with beskar, which would make it even more mighty in the eyes of the Mandalorians.
It is important to understand that the Darksaber is a unique weapon, not a style that can be imitated. That accounts for its rarity in the Star Wars universe—there is literally only one in existence. Tradition holds that the Darksaber can be won only by besting its owner in combat.
The Mandalorian's Darksaber
Din and the Nite Owls unite forces to take down Moff Gideon and turn him to the New Republic. However, it is Din, not Bo-Katan, who defeats Moff Gideon. That means Din becomes the wielder of the Darksaber and the true leader of Mandalore.
Given his fierce loyalty to the Galactic Empire and ability to wield the Darksaber, some questioned if he was a Force-sensitive or Sith Lord. However, it appears that he is neither. He was simply a human male who worked in the Imperial Security Bureau during the reign of the Galactic Empire.
Tenel Ka Djo, the Princess of Hapes, had a tiara of rainbow gems worth the price of an entire solar system. She used some of the crystals in her second lightsaber, after her first one malfunctioned and led to the loss of her arm.
History. Asajj Ventress and Ahsoka Tano were two notable practitioners of Jar'Kai, preferring to use two lightsabers as opposed to one. The cyborg General Grievous had been outfitted with arms that could split in half, enabling him to choose between holding two lightsabers or four lightsabers.

After demonstrating his mercy, the species rewarded Windu with his very own purple lightsaber crystal, which was used in his weapon of choice for years to come. Windu's lightsaber is a symbol of perseverance, determination, incredible mental strength, and kindheartedness.
It's actually Wren who explains why, exactly, the Darksaber is so heavy. In an episode of Star Wars: Rebels, she remarks, "Energy constantly flows through the crystal. You're not fighting with a simple blade as much as you are directing a current of power. Your thoughts, your actions, they become energy.
