One of the wealthiest Wizarding families in Britain, the Malfoys were known for their connections to other pureblood families and their covert influence over the magical government. In contrast to the Weasleys, the Malfoys were traditionally sorted into Slytherin and supported pureblood supremacy.
It's debatable whether the Malfoy family fortune is greater than the combined Potter and Black family fortune, but it's safe to say Harry individually has a greater amount of money than Draco.
Slytherin house has some trouble with shaking its murky reputation – and it's all thanks to a certain few witches and wizards like Lucius Malfoy. Today we look at the reasons why he embodied all the worst Slytherin traits and gave his house a bad name… Lucius Malfoy was an odious character.
History of Slytherin
The Head of Slytherin is Horace Slughorn (who left the role to Severus Snape for fifteen years before taking it up again in 1996) and the House's patron ghost is the Bloody Baron.
Having rendered unknown, shady (and almost certainly magical) services to King William I, Malfoy was given a prime piece of land in Wiltshire, seized from local landowners, upon which his descendants have lived for ten consecutive centuries.
Harry inherits all of Sirius's possessions, including the house at Grimmauld Place, the house-elf Kreacher, and Buckbeak the Hippogriff.
Though Felton has less screen time, his paycheck was totally the opposite. Tom reportedly made $14 million across the eight films, the equivalent of being paid $451,613 per minute of screen time. Meanwhile, in a previous interview, Tom admitted to being financially irresponsible for a while after the films were made.
The Longbottoms
Neville comes from a long-line of pure-blood wizards, although we don't know as much about the individuals as we do with some other wizarding families. What we do know is that both of Neville's parents were pure-blood, as was his gran, Augusta.
Harry is the Heir of Gryffindor (though his powers have been bound by his father when he was a baby), Neville is the Heir of Hufflepuff, Meghan (OFC, daughter of Sirius) is the Heir of Ravenclaw. Harry/Ginny, Ron/Hermione, Remus/Tonks. Sixth year. After a rare magical illness Harry becomes outstandingly powerful.
Neither of them is Slytherin's heir. Although, as Dumbledore says, Harry's ability to speak Parseltongue is a skill accidentally transferred by Slytherin's actual heir, Voldemort, when he tried to kill Harry as a baby. So perhaps this is one myth with a bit of truth to it.
In the Chamber itself, we see a large statue of a wizard, which Harry presumes is Salazar Slytherin. We also meet Tom Riddle, who is, as it turns out, the heir of Slytherin. Present only in spirit, he has all the same been controlling Ginny, and having her act as Slytherin's heir.
Yet only a little more than 15 percent of people would be Gryffindor, and just over 5 percent would be Slytherin! The rest of the data collected is super interesting and definitely worth a scan too.
As the eldest of three sisters, Bellatrix was first in line to inherit their parents' possessions when they died. She also would have merged her assets with those of her husband, Rodolphus Lestrange (another bloodline featured in the Sacred Twenty-Eight). The most convincing proof lies in Bellatrix's vault.
Since we know one galleon is equal to around $25, the minimum amount of money in Harry's vault is a mind-blowing $1,265,625! And that's the baaaaaare minimum considering that in the books, although no specifics were given, A LOT more money was depicted.
"Linfred was a vague and absent-minded fellow whose Muggle neighbours often called upon his medicinal services," Rowling explained. It was these "medicinal services," including "Skele-gro" and "Pepper Potion," that were the beginnings of the Potter family fortune.
Draco Malfoy's mother Narcissa was cold, cunning and devoted to the Dark Lord. But she was also a mother, which meant she was willing to risk everything to make sure her son was safe. When Harry survived Voldemort's Killing Curse for the second time, Narcissa pretended he was dead so she could get to Draco.
In addition, Lucius Malfoy and Arthur Weasley have a well-established feud despite being second cousins once removed by marriage.
Isaacs brings up Lucius' disheveled appearance in Deathly Hallows, raising the possibility that the Malfoy patriarch had begun drinking too much. The way Isaacs saw it, Lucius was in a no-win situation. Given everything he'd done, the man no longer had a place on either side of the war.
Horace Slughorn (1997 - present) Horace, after being convinced by Dumbledore and Harry Potter, returned to Hogwarts as the Potions master. After Severus killed Dumbledore and became headmaster of Hogwarts, it was decided that Horace was to become the Head of Slytherin House once again.
